Well, that VO 1M that Germain BMW in Naples had up on Ebay went nowhere. At the $65k asking price, 0 bids for the week it was up. Might be available now, but I suspect someone on the waiting list there now can negotiate it at MSRP. I haven't gotten a call back on it.

The fully loaded VO 1M offered on eBay from the Naples dealer did not garner a bid at $65K...auction just ended. There were about 525 views of the auction, and I'll confess to about 10 of those!
Granted, the car is not yet on the lot, but is scheduled to arrive around August 10, according to the listing. Should be interesting to see if/how this affects premium pricing. That's the second auction in a row that has not gone for the asking price. There is another VO up for bid from North Scottsdale, AZ; it's used, with 335 miles. I'm watching that, too. |

My guess is that Naples will drop their premium, but probably not all the way down to sticker. At least, not until the new set of allocations arrives in August. Depending on how many dealers get allocations then, things could change. Regardless, I do get the feeling that prices are leaning a little more in favor of the consumer. For now... |

Yep, dealers don't seem to be hitting the $10k premium but it seems like they are still trying to command some form of premium.
That one in Scottsdale, is that up on Ebay? |

Yep - item number 250856045835. Currently at $35k. This will be an interesting test of the market for a used 1M with low miles and about as close to new as it gets. Granted, it's a survey sample of one, and there are probably other factors that influence price (color, options), but given the relative similarity of 1M cars (i.e. limited options), a large sample size probably isn't needed to get the general feel of the market.

There was that one M3 adjuster mentioned with the rock chip. It was "used" with 700 miles (actually titled and everything, bought back at "MSRP" is what they told me )
They were asking nearly $3k over the original MSRP ($54k, i think). Not sure if it sold or not, I haven't gotten a call back from them either. EDIT: Looks like the reserve for the Scottsdale VO is going to be at least MSRP. My guess - they're probably shooting for that $56k-$57k mark. For a "used" one... As I posted before, if you want the fully loaded VO at Germain BMW for MRSP plus the dealer installed options ($59k), call them and ask for Mike K and tell Richard Lo referred you. I spoke to the sales manager this morning and he said it was arriving on the 20th. As for their eBay listing, I believe it was their Internet sales managers failed attempt at a bonus.

Allocations
Quote:
On the 2011/2012 point, I'd seen the 2011-only point so I did think it was odd he phrased it as being out of allocations for 2011s but that he anticipated 2012 allocations. He (Santiago is the CA I talked to at Classic BMW in Plano) that the demand was higher than expected and he thought they were considering extending the production - but hard to think he has 'special information.' Thanks for the tip on allocations coming out monthly. I'll see if I can grab one. I'm leaning strongly toward Sapphire Black with heated seats and no other options. |

Local 1Ms in DFW
A local 1M group would be cool. There's a nice wallpaper piece that has all three colors from the back three-quarter view that I've got as my laptop background now - might be a precursor of the local group.
Let me know if any of you find any other updates to our allocation tracking. If it really is monthly, then we'll mostly be waiting until August starts I suppose. I got a cryptic response from one dealer today that they were selling the cars for $5900 over MSRP when they arrived on the lot so far but would discuss my interest in an order. I'm in now way interested above MSRP. Actually right now I'd go with my local dealer offering to do Euro delivery except that its SO far out and indefinite. Happy Hunting guys. |

Dallas-area info

Autobahn - has sold their allocations but thinks they might get more; $1,000 deposit to be on their wait list. Moritz - Sold their allocations LAST WEEK (arrgghh) but is offering to search other dealerships for me. Not clear how much point there is in that - hard to see another dealer giving one up, at least without some significant over-MSRP premium. The 'internet sale' person I talked to had little information and is having a sales manager call me later today or tomorrow. |

It looks like people who got allocations / cars are already trying to benefit from the high demand.... Here is an eBay auction for a used/new VO 1M with 335 miles. Two days to go and already at $52,100 for an MSRP car of $54,635
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=250856045835 My local dealer here in CA wants $3,000 over MSRP for one VO that is coming by end of July, which is not that bad considering everyone who doesn't have an allocation already and/or is not at the top of the list is being asked over MSRP. I also read here some people actually managed to get European Delivery for a 1M, which is what I would like to do but since 1M's comes from dealer's allocations, many will not do it, except people who started early in this process. ED cars do not come from dealer's allocations except for special editions and low volume cars like 1M. Maybe I'll take this VO for $3,000 over MSRP, we'll see....

Well, that's just encouraging them... but, I guess you can't argue with economics.
Just have to hope those willing to pay in excess are just impatient and don't outnumber the actual supply to be available. Last edited by sergeremi; 07-18-2011 at 03:50 PM.. |

It's a plus for the dealers when an ED counts against their allocation because it means they get credit for the sale.

Exactly - in many cases, quite a bit less. I'm still in line for a 1M, but if the allocation doesn't come through there is a pretty saturated market of 2011 M3s out there with under 5K miles, heavily optioned and some with the Competition Package. I've followed 4 on eBay that haven't even gotten a bid at $55K. Pretty tempting.
But, as Lloyd Bridges says in Airplane!, "that's just what they'd be expecting us to do." |
