Brake Performance
Have any members had experience with the online dealer, Brake Performance. I am looking at cross-drilled rotors, they have them for a great deal. Just wondering if any of you have bought their products, if so, what was your experience and how was the product. Thanks for any feedback.

Just curious - do you need new rotors or is a cosmetic upgrade?
If you feel yours are warped, go through the brake pad bed-in process like you'd just replaced them. You'd be surprised how many times "warped" rotors have uneven grip around the surface and aren't actually warped at all. The bed-in process will go a long ways to fix that. If it's cosmetic, you may reconsider, cheap cross drilled rotors are notorious (at least with other cars I've been around) for cracking if driven hard (road racing or autocross). |

I need new rotors and pads. I was told to go with cross-drilled because pads don't seem to wear out as easily. Not sure what route to go at this point.

Cross drilled and slotted rotors will always wear out pads faster...also with cross drilled rotors you actually worse performance b/c there's less surface area for the pads to make contact with. Cross drilled rotors nowadays are nothing more than an aesthetic function.

OP / Sarah / Carolina1ergirl - you'll see a lot of differing opinions on drilled rotors. I'd say read here to get some baseline info and then make your own decision:
http://www.stillen.com/product.asp?id=BPSPTROTR01 They have their upsides and their downsides, some will be fine and some may crack. There are no absolutes. Bottom line is to buy quality if and when you buy. Also, you need pads if your pads have worn, that's obvious. Are you certain you need rotors? |

FYI cross drilled rotors were originally introduced in the 1960s in racing for heat dissipation and reduction of the unsprung weight, but not used in racing for a long time, as the holes are a source of stress cracks. Now they are used mainly for aesthetic purposes. |

No, I'm not certain I need rotors. I was told by a couple of people to go with cross drilled. It really doesn't matter to me either way. I still have a bit of pad left, but when I had the mechanic check them today at my oil change, he mentioned that my rotor is measuring below specs. So, I decided to do some research. I really appreciate any input from you guys, I am a novice when it comes to these things.

Check with Harold @HP Autowerks. He really knows his stuff and can steer you towards a combination that will be best for you and your driving style. Of course there are others, but he is one of the more popular selections around here.
