Found the perfect iPhone/iPod cable

For those who use the cubby hole rather than the pouch under the armrest, this is the best iPhone/iPod cable I've found yet. Radtech ProCable Shortz 20cm. Perfect length with no extra slack!

That looks about the same length as the one that came with the car, except the Aux in is missing? Does this work the same as the BMW cable?

Yeah the new cars don't come with the Aux+USB cable anymore. Just gotta supply your own USB to iPod cable and this one works exactly the same as the stock Applw cable but cuts out all the unnecessary white-ness and length. Have them in my desk too!

I use the iphone 4 dock with a short cablejive dock extender cable. That lets me use the added features of the dock but still keep my phone in its case.

Are you saying that not all 1M's came with the factory cable?
Mine did come with the Aux+USB. I had already purchased one since I was not aware of this but the BMW cable works much better.

I picked up my BSM yesterday and the dealer said it wasn't included. However, the dealer gave me one because I didn't have mine with me.

Prepare for the end that plugs into the phone to break. My stores sold that brand for a short time. They all broke within a few weeks.

I have the BMW Y cable adapter, also perfect IMO;

I've tried several different cables in mine but the only one that works is the BMW Y-Cable.

Don't get sound without the AUX plugged in...

Is this something to do with 6FL/6NF/6FR?

Same for me. Standard apple cable and a generic aftermarket both work fine.

This was the original solution that I had to use on my 08 5 series.
Now the only cable you should need is a standard Apple USB cable.

I had the exact same issue with this cable. Great idea, but poor execution.

On the other hand I'm using one of their dock extension cables with the media snap-in with great success.

If you have the Nav option you really need the BMW Y cable to get all options on the iPod/iPhone. I use this option over the Bluetooth audio because of this reason. You can't choose playlists etc from the Nav using just an iPod cable.

Hmmm. I guess you can't assume. I have a 2012 X5 and can get everything with a basic usb/iPod cable. No adapter needed.
With my 5 series they gave you the cable.

Sorry, this is incorrect. There is A LOT of misinformation about the infotainment system on this car.

I have all options and there is absolutely no need for the y cable. All options work with just the usb cable including choosing playlists, full iphone navigation,etc. Video will not work with usb or y cable. For that you need the media dock. The dock also accesses the cars external antenna for improved reception.

The cablejive dock extender is just a short cable with apples male and female connections on the ends rather than a usb end that allows you to plug in a phone that wouldnt fit because of form factor or protective case. Got mine from amazon.

Dealers have been know to take them out of the cars to try to get you to pay extra money for them. All BMWs with iPod connectivity come with the Y cable. It is in your leather owners manual case.

Also, not true. Older models did . As there is no need for the y cable, current models do not, at least those with the usb option

Didn't have one in mine at the PCD and I'm sure they aren't pulling them out. I thought I read a bulletin that stated with 6NR, BMWs worked with stock apple cables and as such BMW was not providing them anymore.

I had problems with my 7cm version but this one has been solid for months at my desk. Fingers crossed they fixed their QC issues as I love this length!
