Wrapping the Downpipe - Benefits?
Going to be installing my n55 ar downpipe tonight.
I have heard positive and negative thoughts on using thermal wrap. What is the general consensus on here? What should I wrap while i am under there, if the suggestion is yes. Positive - keeps heat where its supposed to be Negative - Moisture (how does this moisture effect the turbo/rest of system, if at all?) thanks, jb |

Helps with heat yes, but you may want to check with AR and see if it may void a warranty on the pipe. Some companies void their warranty do to the excess heat build up from the wrap. Moisture isn't really a big deal in this case. The wrap will retain it for a slight amount of time, but consider the temp of the downpipe. Moisture won't last long...

Personally, the more professional way to go about achieving the same result is ceramic coatings. Many companies that sell downpipes offer coatings.

Just send it out to have it coated first. Keep the heat in and wont have to worry about no wraps... the whole moisture issue people talk about is when it does retain water some metals will rust out like alumized steel and tell you not to wrap it for those reasons. It really a matter of keeping heat in, AND surrounding areas cool.

I had AR coat mine. Only problem is then they look so pretty, you don't want to have them installed!

Coat them and wrap them. Why not? That's what I did on my full race setup back in the day. It worked well
