Steering wheel volume/mute control?
Is there any way to mute the volume through the steering wheel controls?
Would be great to also know what volume level you are at...I don't see this either. Last edited by arvinz; 04-04-2012 at 04:33 PM.. Reason: I'm an idiot |

You must have gotten a different steering wheel then the reset of us, you should probably bring it back to the dealer and have them install the correct one.
Edit: At least you edited - why not just hold down the "-" if you really want a mute. Not sure why you would want to know the 'volume' number anyway? How come this is in the 1M forum, nothing to do specifically with the 1M. |

Mutes it? Doesn't it just turn it off completely?

No, it actually mutes it. If you look at the speaker logo on the LCD when you press the knob, it puts a line through the speaker indicating "mute", but the interface never goes entirely off and you can still see the radio stations. For CD's/USB/media interface, I believe it stops the song that's currently playing, however the interface remains.

The power button on the radio acts as a mute button for those who have NAV, and as an on/off power button for those who do not. Also, there is no mute button on the steering wheel, however, if you press (-) multiple times (or long enough to where the volume goes to zero), it ends up in a muted state. Lastly, there is no numeric quantifier for how loud/low the volume is. I always found that to be useless considering your ears should tell you if the system is too loud or too low. A number would simply be relative to the system's abilities. |

it could be useful when playing a DVD and then switching to another input. I know in my carethe DVD volumes are extremely low that you have to crank the volume, which is unpleasantly surprising when you switch to another input.

Ii a car with iDrive the power button is more than just mute. I know this because it pauses playback as well. My iPod or Audio CDs will resume from that point. They don't keep playing "silently"...
