I agree that if you aren't tracking then really no point in getting a M, the 135i is an awesome street car.... better still pick up a E92 M3 for $85k and it is a win-win
Agree.. Unless you have owned and driven a 135i and a 1M back to back, then IMO, you have no cause to post a comparison in any shape or form...

And YES Pav.. I know you just like lighting the fire under us " 1M Boys " to get a response on a boring cold Friday arvo...

Joe not at all (although if you see a post on the m3 board....) that is my honest view. As i see it the 1m is a 135 with upgrades suspension/tune etc, not trying to start anything (for a change) thats just my view

Understand where you are coming from mate, and thats your opinion.. but there is no comparison IMO in the 1M as a daily drive or on the track in stock form.

Did I forget to mention the ///M Vin number that you can't mod onto a 135i..

Haha yeah Zuzu chilling out for a bit :-D

Although, I will say at a track day I went to I was as fast or faster than a 1M whilst running possibly the worst tyre combo ever and only just tune, downpipes and a swaybar. I guess there are many factors, putting the same driver in both cars should yield different results, but just because you have the better car on paper doesn't mean it will be better on the road/track.

um..... actually.... i was taking the piss about the track thing wasn't I, forgot about that

dont get me wrong, I just see a 135/1m as a pile of parts and i figure (rightly or not) that if i take the 1m parts and shove them on a 135 then i got a 1m, simple.

I am curious though of those who had a 135 and upgraded to a 1m did you notice any improvements in track times?

I have drive a 335i and M3 on the same day... completely different cars...equally different to the 135i & 1M.
the reason i didn't pick the m3 and 335 to compare is the engine is different BUT and N54 135 and 1m is a much closer starting point.

Ian i'm not trolling but would be interested if you took both to the track or just the 1m? How about a trip to wakefield on the 28th?

The only difference between the M3/335i vs the 1M/135i comparison is the engine. But with the 1M v 135, the engine isn't all that different. Behaves very similarly compared to the M3/335i.

The 1M is more fun, and it looks the bees knees. But if we are talking track times, a modded 135i will be faster than a stock 1M. Ian, trust me, I've seen it first hand. I didn't even need suspension to do it. And it was my first time at the track!

135i dressed in stock suspension is absolute RUBBISH... understeers, body roll and rear floats at high speed. Definitely not worthy for track days in stock form. I changed the shocks, springs, bushes, FSB, tune, LSD and was better, but still not really a track car.

I get tired of this debate... get an 1M and decide for yourself. They are worth every penny IMO.

Topic closed now! ... time for Friday drinks
I brought this up for those who may not be able to afford a 1m, Or are looking for a cheap track capable/nice daily drive car. the n54 is the piss easy part been tuning them for a while and its shit cheap. thats why i said for 10k you can buy a whole lot of M suspension parts and I'd say your gonna get real close to 1m handling

If that doesn't make sense let me know

I'm no Aryton that's for sure. Just trying to say that the car is not the only thing that matters. Like you said, if you can't get the power to the ground, what's the point? There were I think 4 other 135's there that day that were just as quick or quicker. Heck, there was even an n55 135 there with only a tune that was sometimes quicker than me...

Ian, I think you're just slightly biased :-p Especially when it comes to colour ;-)

I think you guys were quicker than all the Ferraris there that day too. Not sure what that tells us.

Of course the 1M is a better car, no question about it. I'm just not paying new car price for anything ever again.

Was just speaking my thoughts - didn't think this was going to be so hotly debated - my bad!

In any case, with regards to second hand car - yes, savings to be had. But I dunno, something special about being the first one to drive it. Yeah I know I know - is it worth $15-20k? I guess that's personal. Not to mention you don't know how the car has been treated prior to you getting in it. Wasn't there this vid of a new white 1m being hooliganised by some techs (burnouts, wheelies) a little while ago? Massive rage about it not being able to be sold (I'm sure it eventually did) - would you buy that car? Having said that though, you could look at the flip side and just thank them for 'breaking in' the car for you I guess it comes down to how think a new car should be 'broken in'.

Mr Kenny, if you use this car as a tax deduction and you get EPP (4 years free service which I think is not transferable) then new is the go IMO.

QUALIFYING STATEMENTS
You must buy the right car, in the RIGHT colour (like a 1m)

I've bought new cars several times and it's fabulous. I love everything about it. Then I got older and uglier and tighter with my money. Can't bring myself to buy a new car now when I can wait a year or so and get what I want with little to no compromise and save so much money.

Each to their own, enjoy life however you see fit!

I'm with Kenny I also don't believe in financing depreciating assets, and won't buy new again it isn't worth it for me and my circumstances.

However everyone's different and nothing beats having the first of a new model off the rank, that new car smell and 0 odometer!
