Ceramic coatings keep the heat in the exhaust resulting in lower engine bay temps and improved efficiency. Most ceramics are a poor conductors of both heat and electricity, boron nitride being an amazing exception that is an excellent electrical insulator but a poor insulator of heat.

I've been doing some research and apparently a lot of people are having success with high temperature oven paints. I'm certain its not as good as a ceramic coating, but it's relatively inexpensive by comparison. |

That lowers engine bay temps, which is good for power and component longevity. It also increasing scavenging, which theoretically creates power. There's also a side perk of coating the pipes, protecting them from salt/etc. None of the effects are particularly huge on their own, but there's no downside (rare for mods) and it's not overly expensive.

I see, I heard a lot of talk about how effective it was back in my dirtbike and quad days, so i figured why not. It isn't very expensive and my family knows a guy, so that helps. Anyway, yes he included the gaskets that go between the block and the manifold themselves, i bought all new nuts to hold the manifold to the block, and replacement gaskets for where the mids bolt up.
Initially, i was only going to use high temp grill paint, but i figured i might as well do it right the first time and go for the quality job.

From the two that are being tested by people who have installed, if one is successful, I will send you a set for free. No need to really change your tune in that case. |

So i attempted the install this morning, gave up after this happened. I'll be taking it to a shop for install, it's just too difficult without a lift. It's extremely difficult to get to most of the nuts from the engine bay.

So i went for round two today with success. I'm not 100% done but i got the headers off and hand tightened the catless ones on. No fitment issues with mapleridge's header design, besides the fact that only 1 secondary o2 sensor will fit in, the other is positioned so that it won't fit, sadly.
However, for those running AA like myself, you won't have any issues with the offroad tune. The tune essentially turns the emissions system off, i just plugged them with 02 plugs. will update once it's all bolted back together and running.

are they strict on emissions in your area? I was kinda on the fence about getting a header since Im not 100% I can get through emissions (its quite the PITA in nova with this lol)

yup, NYS a bitch regarding emissions, thankfully i don't have to worry until august but I haven't quite figured out what i'm gonna do at that point.. but i guess ill worry about that in a few months. Worst comes to worst i have to swap headers, and at that point i'd probably have my catless set modded so i can fit both secondaries in. Then i'd just get an evolve tune and call it a day.

Glad to see you got through the install. It really comes down to a willingness to jam your hand it at awkward angles, and then push the wrench using your other hand to push the hand on the wrench.
Evolve tune would be the emissions solution.

Also, myself and 2 others are testing different designs of o2 adapters/spacers/mini cats that may mechanically fool the car into thinking there is a cat. We should know the outcome of these different fixes within a month or so. We might have a very inexpensive fix. |
