135i Coding
Hi Everyone!
Picked up a 2012 135i vert DCT last weekend and starting to do all the maintenance and modding I can. I've been reading about Coding but there's so much scattered information. Is there a 1 series thread that has all this? I decided to code manually using a K-DCAN USB cable instead of Carly App as I don't want to be held ransom for battery / additional features. I'll document as much as I can as I go along to see if it can help others. Edit: Sigh, I should just keep searching. I'll just document all the threads I find here. As a semi-new person to coding myself I'll tell ya it's a project if you're not already familiar / grounded in the concept that is coding BMW's. Even if your a techy person to start with. You may want to hook up with another local person and maybe buy em a beer and let them give you a "101" type session.
Practical experience is the thing, and to get that the first thing you need to do is get your hands on a working set of the software. That alone took me longer than I'd care to admit. But it's in English (mostly) and on win10 64bit. Pick an easy task like coding the alpina flash or something similar and much discussed to get some success and after that things seem to start flowing easier.

I've tried something similar to this with our Toyota but their software is a little easier to understand.
First things I want to do is recode the battery as I found the PO installed a new battery recently so just trying to figure out if it was coded properly. A BMW specialty shop in GA told me they saw "under voltage" codes but I was running late for a 12hr drive so this maybe tied to it. Afterwards it would be nice to code vert top open with FOB, mirror folding and nag screen bypass. |

Ugh, I feel defeated. After futzing with NCSExpert, NCSDummy, ISTA, BMW Tools for what seemed to be a few hours, I gave up and bought the Carly app to quickly get my battery registered. It immediately fixed my accel pedal delay on the DCT as well as being able to quickly code a few additional features. I wanted to code away the iDrive nag screens but now need to purchase a Gen2 BT dongle now since the K-DCAN cable, which brings me back to being held at ransom.

I feel your pain- I do IT stuff for a living and even still getting this stuff up & running and working successfully with it was a special kind of hell for me- I eventually got some professional hand holding and now at least have working & well behaved software that I almost understand... I'm nowhere near good enough to teach somebody else or I'd offer.
If/when you get interested again I still suggest the same as earlier- find a local that codes and buy em a beer, or 3, and have em walk you through it.

The Carly stuff is nice. Over the years my time has become worth something and I am often willing to pay to save a headache and / or learning curve for something I don't have a ton of interest in (Or, I do, but other hobbies take priority).

Hi, not sure if someone can help me I have an e82 9/2013 M Sport AUS Model;
I have a USB K-DCAN Cable and installed INPA, EDIBIAS, ISTA - D & P but it seems the program is not registering the cable? I've put it into COM1 but no avail? I bought an ELM bluetooth via Torque app. it seems to read some ECU values Is this because of the DME? |

Not sure if Carly is available for your country but the new app has gone to a subscription model so it'll cost more than someone coding for you. I would recommend Joe@topgearsolutions as he helped me install the latest DME. Go through the list of things you want done and he can update for you. |
