Unfortunately, the current BMW vin decoder is only current through July 08. It correctly IDs your135i, but the production date is listed as December, 2006. That clearly is wrong. Though it is unlikely that the dealer has sold you an 08 at 09 pricing, you should call BMW NA and ask them to give you the production date from the vin. If it says 2008, you have a serious issue on your hands.

This will add to the confusion.....My 08 vin is VF25... There must not be sequencial numbering in the vins.

Before my VF is a 9. Also, those with the sequential numbering question, I took possession of my 135 in England --and I was never able to look it up on the US Owner's Circle website, so maybe it's a UK sequential #. However, it is certainly a US spec vehicle. I guess I'm just in one of those "special" categories under the MSP...

Just ordered mine and the dealer says since its an october build date it wont have the "year one ring". year one means 1 full year since they hit our shores regardless of model year.:iono:

9 would represent that the car is in fact an '09

October is the beginning of a new fiscal year...so maybe that is how they are doing things. Dan having the connects he has should be able to get to the bottom of it, if he has the time.

Nope, no Commemorative Book --which makes things more blurry. I guess I go back to my orignal idea about the guy on the factory line not getting the memo...

Almost if not all N54 motors begin with VF, convertibles and different chassis (E92/E91) may differ

So it looks like it may have been one of the 1st 09 models produced and the "Year One of the 1" button could have just been a lucky part issue, unless BMW is considering all of 2008 as "year one".

Dan, any opinion on whether the ring is for model year 1 or calendar year 1?

According to the BMW website, the commemorative book will arrive in the mail shortly after delivery, so you may still be getting the book. 1 series sales didn't start until March 2008, so I can see there being a few posibilities on the interpretation of Y1OT1:

1. Model Year 2008 only
2. All 1 Series built in 2008 (including 2009 models)
3. All 1 Series that are expected to hit dealer showrooms by March 2009
4. All 2008 and 2009 models (since 2009 is the 1st full model year)

On the 2009 135i website, there is still a link on the bottom titled "Meet the 1 Series." Click on that link and it will mention the Y1OT1 commemorative ring.
