Unusual Exhaust from BavAuto.....
BavAuto lists something unusual. Take a look.....Thoughts??? $649 with black tips, $549 with chrome.
(Click for a larger image) This is the first cat-back exhaust system without a muffler -- it uses Sound Wave Altering Technology (SWAT) to cancel high-pitched sound waves and eliminate passenger compartment drone. The oversized (3"), brushed, 409 stainless steel pipes are mandrel bent for maximum flow. The increased pipe size and smooth curves reduce restrictions and keep exhaust gasses flowing smoothly. Other features include: - OE-style flange and hangers for ease of installation. - Weighs just 21 lb -- 15 lb lighter than stock. - Dual, stainless steel tips, polished to a mirror finish. When used in combination with aFe's Super Stock air intake kit (#55-11470), it adds 11.5 hp and 9.5 ftlb of torque. |

Just the standard aFe exhaust from the looks of it. We just setup a fellow Addict here with one, should have some more videos once it's installed. BSM also did a nice post and review

Does aFe also charge $650? Kinda bloated for something that seems can be fabricated with little craft at a Meineke (reusing stock tips)... Biggest plus would be weight savings though.

The base version sells for $549 (the one with polished tips). The price is very close to Berk ($499) which is the cheapest exhaust system that you can buy on the market. Some one paid a high end muffler shop to build just a customised mid-pipes and the bill was $950. If I were you, I would not trust Meineke to work on my Bimmer. Most local muffler shop will quote you any where from $200-$400 to mimic Berk's design and most of them can not do mandrel bend. So you pay less but get less too.

We have no drone with our exhaust if you keep your stock b pipe, mid pipe and down pipes.
[u2b]<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Yz2AR-JAQr4&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Yz2AR-JAQr4&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/u2b] On our race car with our downpipes and mid pipes we get very little drone during freeway driving...... but our ears still hurt a bit when we get to the track because any straight exhaust is very loud. |

I have that exact setup and I can get it to drone. It's not very loud, but it's there. Go on the highway, and hold it at 70mph in 6th gear (should be around 2500rpm) and it'll drone. Doesn't bother me though, a little music and you forget about it. The exhaust itself still sounds awesome (especially on the track!).

Also in another thread, their seems to be some finish quality issues with the Berk. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=273846 Still waiting for someone to explain how it is money well spent. Last edited by MrRoboto; 06-18-2009 at 06:55 AM.. |

Depends who you ask. Remember everyone mods their cars differently. Some of us are willing to pay that much, others, are not.

Yes, exactly. Every body has their own value system in mind, spend their money differently and different taste in exhaust sound. Some of my firends don't understand why I spent 40K$ on a small ugly looking little car, why not 330, why not MB C350, Why not ... etc. So what, I still like my 135.

A 300hp BMW for 40k is pretty good value considering what you get for your money. A $600 piece of pipe on the other hand is not. At least companies like ShamWow tell you up front they are ripping you off. |
