Who has the Sprintbooster installed...is it worth it?
A few questions.
Im curious to see if it is worth doing. I feel there is a definite lag of engine response when pushing the accelerator...just in normal day to day driving. Sometimes I feel that safety could be compromised if one has to get out of a pinch and need full power immediately. Is it worth spending money on this to sharpen up throttle response or is it better to get an SSTT for example? Am I correct in saying that in day-to-day driving installing a Sprintbooster would actually improve acceleration (from the time you press the accelerator) as it in effect improves response time of the engine? |

I have the sprintbooster and love it, you will never find a person who has really tried it that does not love it.

Alext, I've heard lots of conflicting reports. Most of the very knowledgeable tuners I've chatted to over at E90/N54 Tech say its complete bullshit.
I tend to agree, and subsequently didn't buy the mod. It's not going to increase your 0-100 time. I find the N54 is the most lag free car I've ever driven and as for safety I hardly doube BMW would release a car they felt was unsafe due to throttle control. I personally love the throttle in the car and see no reason to change it. Others dislike it and want to change it - perhaps you can try before you buy for ultimate peace of mind! |

Thanks Kris. I really do find the throttle on the car a bit unpredictable compared to other manual cars. Sometimes I feel it doesnt feel as direct as it should. Sometimes it does.

Ok I know a lot of people say it is BS, but not 1 of those people have tried it. As soon as I put it in my car it felt like I gained 30 hp it was my first mod. Now I know I did not gain power but the way it delivers power and totally takes away any lag is amazing. Now with the dinan tune it is incredible I had to get my car retuned so the dinan software was taken out so I took out the sprintbooster so the dealer would not see it. Well when I picked up the car after the tune was put back in I thought they messed up that the power was not there so I pulled over and put it in in a parking lot and the power was back. So I do not care about people who give there opinion on things they know nothing about. Every meet I go to I take it out and let people try it and not one has not loved it. So buy it you will be very happy with your purchase.

I just read on a Benz forum (Benzworld) that someone suggested waiting till the car fully warmed up then tapped on the accelerator. The engine responds slowly and the revs rise slow. This is exactly what I experience. In short, the effect of the SB is to make the response like a cable operated throttle (as I am used to with my other cars).

Alext, perhaps its the nature of drive by wire throttles... I've only had such cars. No wait, I had a 73 model Holden Gemini that had cable throttle
Perhaps you can ask a retailer to do a try before you buy? |

hehe! That thing was a pile of rubbish! The only engine I have ever rebuilt, and the only decent part of the car! 32/36 DD Weber, extractors, flowed head. Maybe made 100hp? lol
Sorry! Back on topic! Good luck with the SB Alext! |

Alext - have you tried the same thing with DSC switched off? Perhaps your issue is related more to the DSC kicking in than lack of response in the throttle. Remember that the Sprintbooster does nothing for engine output -- all it does is increase the sensitivity of the throttle during light applications. Effectively all it does is make your foot heavier!

Alext, I agree that there isn't the immediate response of the throttle like cable operated cars like Lotus for example. Sprint booster changes that as it changes the sensitivity. If you were in Melb, Andrew would have obliged as he did with me previously.

Guran: Yeah last night I turned off DTC/DSC totally for the first time. Didnt really make much difference. Bit of wheelspin and rear end fishtailing on take off. Nothing earthshattering. Only tried it once and got bored haha! I was half expecting the car to be transformed into some sort of raging beast by what people were saying on here.
