Liquid residue on passenger side.
Hello everyone, this is my first time posting since I just bought my first BMW. It's a 2010 128i.
I hope to be able to post detailed coverage of repairs or events as they happen. My first request to the community for help is identifying this liquid on the side of the car. It shows up at the bottom of the passenger fender where the fender and rocker pane meet. When I took a closer look it seemed to have a slick slimy feel and seemed to be transparent/yellowish. I've read that these can leak windshield washer fluid but it seems slightly thicker and not blue. Any suggestions on what it may be? I'm hoping it's not brake fluid. Thanks for any help in advanced! |

Can you follow the leak up a bit more? If you open the door where does it look like it's coming from?

When you look with the door open it seems to be coming from behind the base of the fender where it meets the sill. It isn't running down from the top of the fender, at least from the outside where you can see it. My guess is it's running on the inside of the fender until it hits the lip of the fender at the bottom and kind of oozes out from there. |

Well the dealer responded to my email. He explained that it is cosmoline, a waxy grease that they put all over these cars and can leak out when it gets as hot as it has been down in the south.
After looking this up I found others with similar issues on the e90 posts. |

You might also see it coming out of the hood and trunk lid as well at some point in time.
