Question Clutch burnout...

Hi everyone...Hope all's well. I was wondering just how fast one would go through a clutch under normal and under aggressive driving conditions given one is pretty familiar with driving a manual. Recently read in a local blog that someone had to take his car in for a clutch replacement after only driving it for about 1000km(650miles)!!! 100% driver's fault? or is the 1M clutch too delicate?

I can't imagine that being anything other than a defective clutch, or more likely driver error.

Already burning you clutch? I guess I'm not buying your 1M . BMW clutches are pretty durable. The incident you mentioned must be driver error or a defect. It should be covered by your warranty.

I'm still waiting for my 1M... Yeah...apparently the guy mentioned that it was covered under warranty...so it must have been a manufacturing defect.

Sorry to hear that. I hope you get your baby back soon. How long did they say it will take to replace it?

If I owned this car, it's exactly what I would do to it - take it out of its misery once and for all LOL

That must be the most indesicive post ever! You're sure it's one of the two possible options ;-)

The two 1M that were used in the M Power Tour here in Germany during the last two months both needed multiple clutch replacements (I can vouch for at least two per car) after less than 1.000km per car.

Two clutches were killed on the Autobahn. Max. fifth gear, shift to sixth and floor the accelerator before the clutch has been completely released. 500nm take care of the rest. On one car, not only the clutch but both clutch and flywheel were torn apart. Imho clear noob mistakes that had nothing to do with the clutch layout of the 1M. My car has 6.000km on it right now and there is no feelable clutch wear.

I think the cdv is also part of the problem in the cases above, especially when people try to perform "fast" shifts. I am thinking of having my cdv removed alltogether. Imho it interferes more than I can see any pros.

Pilot error or sheer bad luck? A closer look at the clutch will reveal what happened.

Example of clutch abuse:

Not the type of "burnout" the local car hero was expecting in this example: "You want smoke? You'll get smoke!":

Re: the second video ("Epic Burnout Fail") - why? Just why?

Remind me to add a 6-pack and a can of whipped cream to my roadside emergency kit.
