Apex EC-7 PSS Rubbing

I just picked up a set of EC-7 wheels and I think the front are rubbing with 235/40 PSS. I have stock suspension no mods done to the car at all. Is there anything I can do to fix this. I believe it is rubbing on the plastic part in the fender or the plastic part where the bumper meets the fender. It only seems to happen on dips but I live in NJ and drive through NYC regularly so I need no rub.

You have the 18-8.5 et+45 up front I presume? Seems weird that any rub would be occurring as I have seen so many posts with this setup. Very interested though in the outcome as your exact setup should be here in several weeks for my 2012.

Yes I have the 8.5 et+45 up front. I went with this setup because it seemed like i shouldn't have problems based the other posts on the forum. I wonder if I should get an alignment and ask to see if they can dial in some extra camber. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Interesting. I had 235/40/18 Dunlop Z1 and now 255/35/18 PSS and neither rubbed with the ARC-8, which I believe the fronts have identical fit. With the Z1s I had a bone stock alignment.

I would remove your alignment pins and push the strut tops in as far as possible. It's pretty easy, doesn't take long. You don't need much more than a jack, wrench (12mm?), and a hammer.

Its a very slight rub. I'll see if I can grab a shot or two after work. I'm really bummed now I was really looking forward to this setup.

Makes sense to me, 235 PSSs are relatively wide tires to try to fit on the front of our cars. I plan to go with 225s and I'm still concerned they'll rub due to my 1inch lower suspension.

An alignment shop cannot "dial in" any front camber on our cars. They might be willing to pull your pins, but more than likely they'd tell you there is nothing you can do. For sure there is plenty you can do, add camber or work on your fenders, or both.

As mentioned, "pulling the pins" is the easiest way to solve your problem. You'll probably want to go to an alignment shop after. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you do before readings and if your camber is very uneven, work on it some more, and then do the final alignment.

I'm going to have to try this I guess. It really sucks because there are a lot of other people reporting no rubbing with this setup.

I have a 2013 vert and just put this set up on last Monday. The wheels were rubbing on the shocks. Apex shipped 3mm spacers that seemed to do the trick. Another forum member has a 2010 vert has the same issue as I did. His spacers are coming in tomorrow.

Are these cars that different car to car or are the wheels not in good spec that is weird. I can put my finger between the wheel and strut in the front.

Yeah I have room for 245 pss upfront if I want with stock suspension. My 235s have tons of room

good point, is there a way to tell from the wheel itself just to make sure I wasn't sent the wrong ones?

Factor, many wheels are stamped somewhere on the wheel. It does sound like you might have the et38 variety if you have much space between the wheel and the strut.

Most wheels are stamped on the back of the spokes. Pull the wheel off and have a look back there. A lot of times, they are marked as "18x8.5JJ+38" or whatever offset you have.

They are definitely et45 not 38 just checked. I looked in the fender well as to where contact might be occurring and it looks as though there is a plastic tab where the fender and bumper meet that has some slight wear on its edge. as well as a small 1in section of the inner fender lip that has the dirt rubbed off(this may have been me when I cleaned my car the other day though).

If you can put your finger between the wheel/tire and the strut, it makes me wonder what's up though. Your setup should be very, very close to the strut. I can pass a 3mm allen head but not a 4mm allen head between my wheel and strut and my wheels are et42.
