bmw canada approved winter tire package
On the BMW Canada website, I can see they offer BMW Approved winter tire packages. Does anyone have more details on these packages? What is the exact specs of the tires and rims in the package (i.e. sizes). I am particularly interested in the 128i packages. I don't plan on getting it from BMW (too expensive). But I thought I could at least get the same sizes for the wheels and tires (non-runflat).

go to tirerack.com
there are lots of other posts here as to what people had success with. I ordered mine from there and it was half the price of BMW and arrived in 5 days. |

ditto big time.
Too bad we all didn't get our winters when our dollar was worth more than USD. It's still worth it though. I am guessing I saved between $600-$700 and the tires came to my door 3 days after I ordered! Life is Good! BTW Gill should give us a free tire pressure gage for the good word...LOL EspressoBoy PS BTW, anyone in TO/GTA going to put winters on soon? |

+1 for Gill @ Tire Rack.
Very happy with my order. Gill went above & beyond when there was a slight mix up with my order at no cost to me. I ordered BMW center caps but then changed my rim style. We missed the fact that center caps don't fit the new rims, so he refunded me for the center caps & sent out some BMW center decals free of charge. . |

I think you guys in the GTA would be surprised with how competitive
(to tirerack) some local tire shops are. I'm getting pretty good prices any where from 1300-1700, everything in, with good winters, Dunlop 3D, gislaved nordfrost 5, nokian's Rsi and a set of rims. Don't have anything against tirerack or Gill...but you do have local choices.. |

I wish their was a local tirerack here in Toronto, Ontario so that we skip ouot on the custom / shipping charges. That is what makes apples to apples with local competition. Otherwise, a local TR store would be 200 to 300 bucks cheaper on a package tireset. Oh, and also an installer shop would be nice. As I know I will now get slapped another 40$ to rotate to winter wheels at any other shop. Gill, any thoughts on a new store or partnership with someone in Toronto Ont Canada ???

Nobody read my earlier post? I saved $600-700$ CAD by using Gill@tirerack.com and that is confirmed!
You will save less now because of the exchange rate. If I had ordered in the summer it would have been $900-$1000 CAD savings and that is all inclusive of shipping/taxes/duty/exchange! I saw the local rims too, they were not as good as what I got from tirerack. (at least that is what I found) I did not find a local place to quote me "apples-to-apples" just runflats-to-runflats I paid more because I purchased winter runflats. Call me crazy, but if I get a flat, I can just drive to a dealership and they will swap a new one in... so I am told. Time will tell eh! At the end of the winter, I will post my results. But ordering from tirerack after a 3 min phone call, and getting the tires delivered to my door in a record 2.5 days! Ordered on Monday at 10am, and the tires came in Wed at 2pm. Obviously once the cold comes, winter tires run out, and it will take longer, due to volume. The 2or3 cons I can see by ordering from tirerack, vs local. 1 . NO Nitrogen offered at Tirerack 2. I have to either arrange to have the tires put on, or I have to do it myself. 3. And possibly warranty issue hassle, but with Tirerack's reputation, that actually might be a bonus. Local shops all depend on the attitude of the manager that day. I will say, if I had a relationship with 1 good garage, I would have paid something extra and have everything done under 1 roof. Total car car is always best. It's a shame the dealerships are not only way way way more $$$ but the service I have got so far, is just SAD! EspressoBoy |

Well, like to like I meant same rims & tires as offered by TR, here at a local non-bmw dealer. A comparison to the dealer, well, local or non-local non-BMW dealer will always sell for alot less.

135iUSN,
yup, but that probably cuts into his commission... remember he too owns a 135i and that puppy is not cheap. Sometimes it's better to pay a bit more, and have someone who has time to listen to our "issues" and fight for us, when something goes wrong. Time will tell to say if that is true. EspressoBoy PS Gill when can you send me the free electronic tire pressure gage for Christmas?? LOL |

I ended up with 205/50/17 (BMW recommended), Gislaved nordforst 5 and alloys for $1320 out the door. I think it's a pretty good deal, the same set up at Steelcase cost about 100+tax more. Good luck guys! |
