I've been telling everyone that since I took it for a drive and especially since I drove it at Phillip Island a couple of months ago?

Well, obviously no one believed you until they drive one . Especially how sedated it looks.

What's your thoughts comparing it to the 1M?

With all this M235i hype I decided to test drive one... It drives very similar to a 135i N55 with PPK (in fact I prefer the PPK burble) its looks a little overweight and the interior is rather busy compared to the e82. Am I missing something here

M135 and M235 replaces 130i and 135i, so it should just be the usual new model hype.

M135 is old news so M235 is the topic at the moment. The step changes from 130i to M135i are of course greater than 135i to M235, so it's no surprise to find existing 135 owners less keen on the M235, especially modded 135s

Are you just referring to the engine? If so absolutely, they are the same engine afterall! But the M235i chassis is so much better balanced, doesn't understeer the way the 135i does, changes direction much quicker, and has a more accurate and faster steering. And on top of all this, it also rides better. It's a completely different car from the 135i coupe. Interestingly I had a M135i when I drove the M235i. Even against the M135i cousin it is just that bit sharper everywhere. I say to people that the M235i is just like a M135i, but 10-15% sharper and better everywhere.

How long was your test drive? Did you get a chance to push the car?

Driven on suburban streets, maybe over expectation, the rear of the car looks very smart, not a fan of the bonnet line though, I'll buy it over the A45.

You are right, could be the whole expectation thing. But take it for a whole day if you have a chance. I first drove the car at Philip Island track swapping between it and E92 M3, and in both wet and dry track. I was highly impressed by the balance of the chassis. Then I had the car for 2 days just a few weeks ago and it was just as impressive on the road. Of course you can only understand the full potential of it's ability when you get to push the car a bit.

Also interesting that you didn't like the bonnet line but like the rear, because I'm the complete opposite! Just as well we all have different taste when it comes to the looks of a car.

I don't like the look of the car at all, but they were using the M235i as the Motorkhana car. I usually don't like Motorkhana, but it was just amazing fun sliding the car around. The chasis is much more predictable than the 1M and was even able to hold a slide I assume it is on the DTC setting. Compare to the 135i where the suspension was sloppy, the M235i was much tidier with little body roll in comparison. Also, the DTC setting on the 135i was actually dangerous and less natural. The powercut kicks in very quickly and the way you have to drive it is to hold the line as you feel your rear comes out and you cannot put in any counter steer.

Hence, now I am really looking forward to what the M2 can do if the M235i is already miles ahead of its predecessor.

You and me both (and Alpine)! In my ideal world, it would be the same formula as 1M, ie diff, wheels, suspension, brakes and rear end from the M3, but this time also a carbon roof. I don't mind a N54/55 as I won't use it as a track car. It also has to be a fair bit lighter than M3 with about 280kw. Oh yeah!

Anyone after some A45 bits?

Looks like the famous A45 is being stripped!
