portable nav with euro maps?
I think it is time for me to finally get into the 21st century and buy a portable nav unit for my trip to Europe. Does anyone know of a good portable GPS unit that comes loaded with maps of North America and Europe?

The Garmin Nuvi 270 fits your bill. They may not sell it anymore but I got mine for $320 last winter.

I bought Nuvi 255W with pre-instaled map (US 2009NT) and added extra Europe map on the memory card. Hint: TMC receiver, added to some models in the US, doesn't work in Europe at all (different frequency)

I borrowed a Garmin Nuvi 360 last year when we did ED and it worked like a charm.
Took us the the front door of all the places we wanted to go. She wasn't very good at finding a parking place when we got there however. |

Are you taking ED? If not then do you plan on renting a car? If you rent a car you can request Navigation and 99% of them have the various language already preprogramed. I just bought a Navigon 2110 ($350) that came with Europe loaded and a seperate memory card with USA/CANADA. It works great (no bluetooth though...that will cost roughly an extra $100).

I rented a card from "adc" to use in my Garmin during my ED.
He was great to work with and the card performed flawlessly. My ED was July of 08. I guess he still rents them. Give him a holler. |
