Exclamation Euro MDM

So M3 Adjuster mentions a euro M Dynamic Mode that can be coded into 1M that allows for more rotation. In almost 5 years talking 1M I never knew that they had a different MDM mode than us and that it was available. Anyone else hear of this? I'm sure a dealer won't code that because guys have already died in 1Ms but any info appreciated. How much more rotation? I autocrossed my first 1M in MDM and it wasn't bad I think I was just happy because I kept it on the course with it on. : ).

Anyone done this? Also my car Canadian. I wonder if it had same MDM as US. Everything else except for speedo and no TPMS is the same.

Thanks

Would like to know this as well. That M App Analyzer is pretty damn cool too.

Can be easily remotely coded.

I haven't done any head-to-head comparisons of standard vs Euro but it seems many E9x M3 people swear by it.

I can get enough rotation that I start to feel very uncomfortable, although that is likely a driver skill issue.

Incidentally, CBC stays active even if MDM is activated - some people have felt that this was a limitation during at-the-limit driving. Coding CBC off can be done but is more involved.

Had it on my car for a while, it allows for a bit more wheel spin and felt much less intrusive when breaking traction; IMO what it should have come with from the factory.

It's easy to change if you have the typical coding cable and NCSExpert software, setting is in the DSC module, set "MDYNAMIC_MODE_USA" to nicht_aktiv. "US_VEHICLE" should be set to nicht_aktiv as well if it isn't already.

See this subforum for more details on what's needed to code the car : http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=368

Another interesting bit is this : http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=956396 essentially the ability to tweak how much slip MDM will allow. I haven't had a chance yet to see if our cars have it too though.

Corner Braking Control (CBC) stays active on the 1M even when you turn off DSC unlike the M3. The only way to disable it on the 1M is to completely turn it off via coding.

Euro MDM is a feature on all M cars that can be enable via coding. It allows more wheel spin and greater slip angles before DSC kicks in. German car makers are fearful of US litigation and that's why we get the more intrusive traction and stability control.

Just turn it fully off. That's how cars are meant to be driven and if you can push the car hard every day with DSC off and not lose control you're probably a decent driver.

I guess I'm not a decent driver then. I've turned it all off at the autocross and have had some pretty good
Spin outs. I would only turn it off at track now. On street I would prefer MDM on. One mistake and you're done. My friend AW1M rolled his 1M and he drove a GT3 also. I find base TC to intrusive and its interesting if there is an MDM that can help without slowing you too much. Has anyone else done it here?

I have it coded into my 1M, and it kicks in right at the time you start to feel the "oh Sh*t" moment. I am like the rest of you guys it seems like taking it to AutoX and HPDE events, then also want to be cautious on the street. I don't want to go back, but I would warn other people driving my car that the MDM will scare you since you are not used to it.

But if you can't, that gets expensive very quickly!

In all seriousness, I have never spun the 1M on the track or at an autocross where I always run with all the nannies off. I HAVE exceeded the car's limit and have had plenty of opportunities to make a steering correction, and I have taken out a fair number of cones, but I have never had a complete loss of control where I was just along for the ride with both feel on the floor. Despite that, I still think twice about turning the DSC completely off on the street. It is not because I think the car will behave differently or that my skills go away. It is because I share the road with the general public, 98% of whom have driving skills far inferior to mine. (and I'm humble!) I can't predict when an elk or mountain goat may wander into the road when I am tearing up a mountain pass. There is just too much that can go wrong in an instant when away from the controlled environment of the track.

If there's a coder you all recommend I'd love to get this done?

Alex @ alpine coded my car as well.

Recommendation to anyone with euro MDM coded - Be a little more careful on the street if you choose to run euro MDM while daily driving.

Personally I leave my car in normal mode on the streets unless I tell someone to hold my beer and watch this ...
