Cool thanks for the info! But like people have said, the ppk really shines in the higher rpm range, but its nice to kknow the rumor of no launch control is false

LC starts the car at 4000rpm.
It shifts at almost red-line.

Did you get about the same amount of spin in the first test? What about air and road temps, about the same?

I said it in my post... I seem to recall there was less spin before the PPK.
Today's air temp was just a bit lower than last time. I'd guess the road temp was much lower, since it was early morning today, and late afternoon last time.
Maybe the lower road temp explains the more spins, which negatively impacts the measured time, but the lower air temp positively affects the engine performance, so it's a wash.

I guess I should have re phrased that. I meant to say the ppk has more effect at higher speed, At least that's what I have read.

So slower then (if you take out the 5.66 gravel run)?

Only joking mate. In all seriousness you won't see much of a difference in your 0-60 run once PPK is installed. Any extra power you get from the map change will be lost in wheel spin once you launch.
After having my N55 flashed, LC has become a waist of time IMO. The revs set by the LC (3,500rpm) are just to high and unlike my old DSG box you can't reduce them at all. If you could drop them down to say 2,000 - 2,500rpm, I think it would still be a useful tool.
It was even worse when I tried it on a 1/4 mile drag strip. It either lit up the wheels or induced the stability control to come in and cut all the power in 1st
Needless to say, I don't think i'll be running the car down the 1/4 mile too many times, unlike I use to in all my other cars..

I would think where the PPK really shines (over a standard car) is in the in gear acceleration times.

Passing power is very nicely improved.
My Step car with the PPK makes a lot more TQ right off idle than stock. I think if the roads are good and hot(sun in the summer) will cut at least 2/10ths off the 0-60.

That's what some folks say, but I see no evidence to that.
Look at the dyno charts. PPK raises the torque curve throughout, more so in lower rpm ranges.
Besides, from the engine's point of view, 3000 rpm is where it generates the peak torque. It doesn't matter what gear you're in or speed your car is running.

Note that BMW does claim a 0.2 s improvement with PPK.
I didn't do this because I doubt BMW. I did it to have a baseline, so that I can tell if (or when) I lose the flash for whatever reason.
But your wheel spin comment is noted. I did observe that. Will try again when the weather warms up and I get better traction.

As already mentioned, I would time the car (on the same road) between 30-whatever. Will give you a much better comparison. However, now you have the software on it's to late.. lol

time how?
note that you need something with at least 0.05 resolution and accuracy.

Good thread. Just had the PPK installed but the car is not yet broken in. It does feel stronger.

Do the DCT cars get the same 32ft lbs as the step cars or the lesser amount the manual cars get?

From what I understood of the published claims by BMW, it's the latter.
That makes sense, since a DCT is a manual. The difference is that a computer is pushing the clutch (and doing the shift, if you let it) instead of you.

That said, I'd love to hear someone explain why an auto can get more torque compared to a manual.

I was thinking, since its a newer transmission it would be beefed up enough to handle the little extra 15 ft lbs( and perhaps more). The steptronic is by most accounts a well made, strong unit. I assume the DCT is also. I with you, I dont understand it.
