RED short film for 135i
So, some of you may remember my promise last year of a video of the 1er on our RED camera. things get busy, and fun stuff gets put on the backburner, etc. etc...
Well, it's going to happen now. I'm just too busy to concept a purposeful storyline for the short and wanted to include my 1-series brethren. So, I was thinking the forum could collaboratively come up with some purpose for this video, a concept story, as it were. Nothing elaborate, not too much character-development, just enough substance to prevent the video from being just a pretty picture. Here's the concrete stuff: It's going to be 60 seconds long. It's going to include (but not limited to) the following cars: my 135 and my partner's black 996 carrera. utilizing car mounts and shooting from a big suv. if I can conjure a camera truck with a crane, I would but we're not gonna drop a budget on this. just my time. again, not looking for something in-depth and elaborate. but it can't be just a pretty picture of cars driving down a road. Thoughts? Discuss!

You could do a Top Gear-style road trip across the country (or state, or city). Those are always fun. Don't think you'll fit it into 60 seconds though...
You could also find an abandoned track/airstrip and just have some fun. I just think it shouldn't be too cheesy, with text flashing by saying things like "300 horsepower" or even "bmw 135i". I'm tired of that sort of dark, mysterious video style that everyone likes to stick to. It's a 135i, not the cure for cancer. Show us what it can do! |

60 seconds only? Do it in this style - 30 seconds for each car. My 2 cents.
And I beg you, keep music to a minimal and don't put any rap in it.

I liked the simplicity of that gray m3 video a while back.
Cant recall a link if anyone has it handy. It was the guy/girl in the dark gray m3 rolling around a metro area at night. Mostly exterior shots with a couple in car dash shots of shift lights, etc. It was very simple, well produced, light music, nice engine sound captured. edit: found the link |

^^ Yeah, that video was awesome. Do something like that. Or hire a screen writer, Clive Owen, Tony Scott and a massive production crew to 1-up the BMW films

the grey one is great. simple concept of a girl paying for a joyride.
there will be no info about the car, so nevermind that. let's run with some ideas like this.

If I were going to make a video about the 1er it would have this story line:
1) Sibling rivalry to start video, other "Big brother" cars (X5, 5 series, 3 series, etc) make fun of the little brother the first time he comes out to play with the big boys (at track maybe) 2) Little brother gets butt kicked first time (loses race) 3) Little brother goes and works out and starts training (135 gets some nice wheels, jb3, exhaust, DP's, etc... Then practices driving, some spin outs etc...) 4) Little brother comes back to play with his older brothers, but this time kicks their butts. (135 kicks ass) : This might require too many cars though

Rodi, I'm sure you guys can come up with something great on your own. It's more exciting when we have no clue what it's about.

Only if it has this song in it:
I'd give up my 1er in a second to be able to do that everyday. Looks like so much fun.

if there's anyone who drives a 1 in the area (or wants to come to atlanta) that wants to get a little crazy in TIMYOYO mode, by all means - step right up. this is going to be fun. :]

I would start with some artistic shots of the cars in action and try to fill in some minor story around it...since the focus is going to be on the driving not the story due a very short overall length.
The best part of M3 vid is how they artistically show off the car in action (I could watch it power slide that turn all day). |

that makes it just a pretty picture. take out that story of the paid joyride, and it's a completely different experience. go to their youtube channel and watch the other version, you'll see what i mean.

In the m3 vid, their story element is all of a couple seconds total and a very minor part of the 'film making'. Her entry and exit from the car and a few in car shots. I am saying film the bulk first and then you can ease in a tiny story like that at any point. |

If you really want to have fun, bring your cars up here and we'll wait for the day after a blizzard to go out and film on some country roads.
