kmīs until MT is broken in?
Hi people!
Since I now own a fine new 325i E91 itīs time I joined this fine forum I have the MT and going from 1st into 2nd gear occasionally needs quite a good push to engage. Iīve got 3000km on the odo, and I was wondering roughly how many more kīs do I need until the tranny is smooth and fully broken in? Should I be concerned? Or is everything ok? Thanks! I had an e46 for 23k miles, and the 1-2 notchiness never went away. Similarly the 2-3 was sometimes balky.
My e90 feels exactly the same. Worse when it's cold. I suspect that's just the way it is, and that's how it always will be. |

I've noticed the same thing... Car has about 2800 Miles on it alot of which is stop light to stop light driving with alot of up and down the gears... It has loosed up a little bit from 1 to 2 (from completely new), but there is still a "notchiness" most of the time. Third seems to actually have loosed up to the point where the 2 to 3 shift goes in really nice a majority of the time, and the 4th to 3rd downshift is actually really smooth into 3rd. Now 3rd to second again can be notchy sometimes going into second...
I guess it sounds like this is all normal....

my previous experiences with E46 330i indicates that doing the whole break-in with city driving dramatically smooths out the Manual Transmission (5-speed 330i is what I have experience with) assuming that you use first gear to launch the car.

Thanks for the input guys!
Gear shifting is really smooth through all of the gears with the exception of 2nd. Itīs much smoother than it was when brand new so I guess it will keep on loosening up the more I drive... Thanks also for a great forum! |

Welcome!
I noticed the notchiness decreased markedly after about 2-3000km, but it hasn't gone away. Sometimes I have 1-2 balking, but it could be a problem with my car between the seat and the steering wheel
