GIAC

Hi guys,

I just got quoted in Melbourne $1600 for the GIAC flash. For that price I could get a jb4/procede plus the Cobb AP to boot. Anyone do any better?

Flash Tunes can't really compare to Procede/JB4/Cobb... they're more expensive and Procede/Jb4/Cobb just work so damn well

Only advantage of the flash would be on a 1M where I believe you can retain M button functionality... don't quote me on that though.

Compare to the piggy backs options, the perceived advantage is the giac name of producing good, reliable tunes. Most US race cars use GIAC as their tuner. There is no hard data, but just opinions so not much point of debating those. Best to do a and decide for yourself.

Obviously there are certain advantages piggy back has compare to flash. Both the JB4 and Procede have been around a long time and they both have happy supportive customers.

Back to the OP, have you look at GIAC's website for other Melbourne dealers? If you have a charger, they might be happy to sell it to you directly.

Got quote from VolksTech. No, I can't really see myself spending that much... despite having to "pay to play". I cannot justify that amount, that's all. It would be better off being spent on other things.

I really do not want to get into any tuner wars (and I'm sure you've heard that all before), and I really just want to keep it on track to "where to get GIAC in Melbourne", but (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) I like the fact that GIAC rewrites the DME tables... I guess you could call that a point of difference... But I just want to know all possible options down under.

Sorry, but what do you mean by charger? And unfortunately there was only VolksTech when I did the google for GIAC in melbourne Sorry, just checked the GIAC website - will look into the other dealers... thanks for the headsup.

I'm assuming he means battery charger, so it can be used as a battery stabilizer when you're writing to the ECU.

IMO Giac and Cobb are the same except Cobb is half the price and you can do it yourself.

Sorry for the rhetorical question. Wasn't thinking of which is better but rather how much should one spend to get to a point where it is really much of a muchness.

I have the cobb myself and the deciding factor for me was the quick, no taking apart anything, DIY reason.

GIAC has good rep with the VW/audi crowd.

The advantage of giac with rewriting the dme is over other flash tunes like cobb, ess. Not sure if evolve rewrites the dme table, but should get some confirmation over the next couple of weeks. jb4 and procede intercepts the signal so it can achieve the same without rewriting the tables.

I meant battery charger. As Giac rewrites the dme, it takes 1.5 hrs for the flash. Giac would like to do handheld flash like what they offer on some other products but not comfortable someone doing that at home for the n54 in case something goes wrong. Thomas@giac will be the best person to speak to.

Just got quotes from the other 3 authorized resellers - all around $1600 I just dunno whether I can justify it. Even then, for that price, I'm not even sure if it's just for stage 1!

not sure what you mean by that, but surely the cobb rewrites the tables otherwise how can they get higher boost

in any case double the cost for the same 'driving' result seems a little dumb.

Stack it with PROcede/JB4 and it's still cheaper if you want good boost control. Get meth support to boot.
