My 135i Was Totaled
A week after I took delivery, a Uhaul truck smashed into the back of my 135i while it was parked on the street. The car was then thrust into the front of a motorcycle, completely ripping into the front end. The car was devastated, the owner was, devastated. Does anyone know who the very best BMW body shop is in D.C.?
Your help could be the only thing that pushes me through this... thank you. |

it was mine. i thought i made that clear. insurance claim was made on the driver of the uhaul's insurance company, but i'm still waiting to hear back on what that type of coverage will entail. anyone have an idea how long it will take for new front and rear ends? Parts? I have a feeling it will take months due to the 1 series' newness.

In a weird way, I appreciate this post. It's been a rough few days, I almost had to get over it the minute I saw the damage. It was just too unreal. I didn't know a car could incur so much damage while parked.

My car previous car was totaled too. Rear ended by 4 other cars on the freeway because the guy behind me rubber necked at another accident and did not notice I stopped for traffic. I was sore for 3-4 days.

First of all... VERY sorry to hear about that. It sounds like nobody was injured, and that's really all that matters. Things can be fixed or replaced.
If it's not totaled, make sure you get diminished value from their insurance company, because when you do sell that fixed car, you're going to get a lot less for it than one that wasn't smashed into and then fixed. I'm with Robert when he says that he hopes it's totaled, and you get a new car. |

Sorry to hear, really! But maybe you can help others with this... post some pictures. Like someone said, they have a rock chip. That way, any time someone is complaining about some cosmetic issue, we just point them to your pictures, just to put things into perspective. Also as Larry says, "nobody is injured." and that really is the most important thing. Of course you will be busy and it's never fun dealing with insurance, Dealership, body shops etc. Advice, get quotes, more than one, and if possible see if you can get a new car out of it. Maybe your dealership can help? Let us all know how it goes. And if you have any words of wisdom, even after the fact, we would all appreciate it. This can happen to anyone.
All the best eh! If you need any help with advice, remember to post. There are so many seasoned people here who are ready to help. Nobody likes to here of a fellow one'er loosing his one. Maybe you can get another1! EspressoBoy PS Quotes from the great Yoda... Happens to every guy sometimes this does. Pain, suffering, death I feel. Something terrible has happened. Young Skywalker is in pain. Terrible pain. Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealously. The shadow of greed, that is. |

If you haven't done it already, get in touch with the local BMW CCA Chapter (for you it will be National Capital Chapter www.nccbmwcca.org ). If anybody is going to have a handle on the best BMW body shops in the area, it's club members! Check their website, check their newsletter and if they have a local forum, check that too.

To put your mind at ease, if they don't total the car and you DO have it repaired, as long as they take their time and do it correctly, it can be just like new. I have mine back now and it's perfect! I took it to the dealership to have the used car manager look at it so I could get an estimate for dimished value to give to the insurance guy...he couldn't tell what had been repaired or replaced and said I would be lucky to get $1K for diminished value. Yours sounds like it was hit much harder than mine but if you find a good body shop, they can work miracles! Best of luck!!!

Sorry to hear it. If the car isn't totaled & you are looking for a body shop, I recommend Burnt Mills Auto Body in Silver Spring - they did a perfect job repairing my Z4 after someone backed into it in a parking lot.
