Tail Light Tinting Questions...

Hey all,
I was interested in tinting down my rear tail lights but I wanted to do it in such as way as to accent the "bar lights". So being rather inexperienced, I went out and bought some tinting film hoping that I could apply it and basically cut out strips where the bar lights go across.

But like I said, I know nothing about this or if it's doable. Can anyone suggest how I might go about this or how to highlight the tail lights a bit better? Thanks
