D@*nit Why do I bother?

Warning...Rant Ahead...

So I had the whole front end of my car done in Xpel film. The whole hood included. Did this back in January after the hood was repainted in December (thanks to dealer damage). I let the car sit in my garage for a month to let the paint cure so it would be pristine under the xpel film.

Then a couple of days ago I'm driving to work. I merge onto the highway behind a rock truck and quickly get over to pass to avoid falling rocks. Damnit if the truck didn't kick up a rock that landed right in the center of my hood. It gouged my new film and may have even reached the paint.

So no matter how much I wash and clean my car, there will always be this ugly mark in my hood.

Son of B!!!! This is one reason why I can't have a concealed carry license...

That's the point of the film lol. It could have done way worse on your hood. Don't drive behind trucks. Period. And if you are behind a truck, leave a good distance between you two.

sorry to hear, I corrected and polished my parent's 1er cabrio, and the next day they didn't let me know they had to take it to the dealer. The dealer kindly reinstalled the swirls I had just removed. God bless their souls.

I used to worry about every nick and scratch on the front of my car. Then I realized that it is not piece art but a car I love to drive. And if you drive on the road, s**t happens! Now if I get a door ding, well, I don't a gun in my car either......

Did you get his license plate information? If there is any notable damage to your vehicle that resulted from theirs, they group employing the driver will likely pay out to avoid a shit storm. something very similar happened to my roommate.

About a week after I bought my 1 I was about 100 feet behind a work truck that hit a bump going over a bridge and around 200 little rocks got airborne. My car got riddled with those lil bitches. Luckily I got his companies info on the side of the truck and they compensated me for all the damage.

I learned a long time ago that the more you worry and obsess over every little nick on the cars paint it'll just drive you crazy or to a heart attack. If this is your DD car you have to accept that shit will happen to it. Now a days I just enjoy the drive and try to keep the car looking clean not perfect.

Yeah, I used to think that if I wanted to keep my car nice I couldn't drive it anywhere. Then I realized even I did stupid stuff in my own garage, and started thinking that if I wanted to keep my car nice I couldn't even own it.

I've since learned to take reasonable precautions but beyond that, as mentioned, shit happens. Easier said than believed of course...

I'm lucky that in 5 years no door dings have occured on mine. I park away from others when I can. Trucks on the highway are an issue. Only thing you can do is leave a good distance away from them.... and let someone else pass you and get behind the truck. I'd rather drive slow for a bit then get a rock shower.

My biggest problem has been replacing my windshield. The glass must be soft because anything hard will damage it. I lowered my deductable after the last time. I'll pay $100 now. Tired of paying $500 every 18 months for a new one.

This is my only car and I bought it to enjoy and drive. I just do what I can to keep it looking good.

Good thing to remember: an ounce of preparation is worth a pound of correction.

Obviously you cant prevent everything especially when trucks decide to use rock throw. But every little bit helps
