Now THIS is the best color on the 1M. Wish BMW produced this.

Buff the stupid out? It seems very strange to me that some forum members have such a negative reaction to the color of a vehicle. I thought the recent offering of matte/frozen paint was a retro thing that would appeal mostly to the baby-boomer generation that were into hot rods. Shit, Google "hot rod" images. More than half of the vehicles that show up will have matte paint jobs. Harley Davidson offers most of their new bikes in matte. Dale Jr. has a matte helmet. I could not give two drops of piss about any of the above but I respect the passion of rod, biker and NASCAR enthusiasts. I can't figure out why there seems to be so many negative reactions to paint. I fucking hate chrome badges, trim, exhaust tips and wheels but I don't feel the need to write that on everybody's photos.

I just did the exact same thing to my car. Couldn't be happier with the results. More pics here.

The painter who sprayed mine made his own Frozen Estoril Blue E36 M3. It came out great, and I'd imagine it would be incredible on a 1M as well.

Same here when I got my Frozen Bronze GC I didn't have to sign on anything.

Back to topic I find the frozen colors to be a welcome edition and I don't think you will see a lot of them on the street not that I would mind looking at the frozen VO.

I saw this car in person last week and talked to the owner. I like the black wheels and trim but find that my personal preferences tend towards glossy paint, like when my own VO is freshly waxed.....

+1 the color looked super hot in person. Nice write up South. You probably had a field day at the M event lol.

Compare with the German "Frozen VO" and the Swiss "Matte VO":

Generally about frozen/matte:

"BMW is making soon to be 2011 Frozen Gray M3 owners sign an agreement that they understand the care the "frozen" paint finish requires.
BMW's suggestions to avoid paint damage:
- Never polish or wax the frozen gray paint as it could lead to a glossy surface.
- If washing your frozen gray M3 in a automatic car wash (you should be killed) choose a car wash that does not apply vehicle wax. Rinse the M3 with high pressure water to remove dirt before sending it through the automatic car wash to avoid scratches from sand, dust and other micro-particles.
- Remove bugs, bird poo, tree sap, tar, fuel spills or oil immediately using a soft sponge.
- Avoid strong rubbing while cleaning the frozen paint. BMW sells suitable products for maintaining the frozen paint at your local dealer.
- Repairs to the paint (scratches, dents, etching) must be completed by a BMW trained body shop. Most auto body shop will not be capable of repairing the frozen gray paint.
The agreement goes on to explicitly state that the warranty does not cover the frozen gray paint if it is damage by the owner as a result of negligence, lack of maintenance or proper care, environmental damage or improper repairs.
Only once the agreement is signed and returned to BMW will their car be shipped to them. Without signing the notice you're not getting your shiny new (or in this case matte) 2011 BMW Frozen Gray M3.
It's interesting that these 30 Frozen Gray M3 owners are paying extra for a finish that seems less durable, easier to damage and impossible to repair."

"The treatment involves normal base layers of water-borne paint finished in a satin clearcoat, and the warnings still persist: don't use chemicals or abrasives, dry with only cotton cloths, not microfiber, avoid automated car washes like the plague, and no matter how tempting, never wax or polish your car"
