Oil help

This may seem like a dumb question and I did search but couldn't find my answer. My car is reading add +1 quart of oil. I run amsoil in my car but currently do not have any extra and can't get some for a few days. Is it safe to add another brand of oil. I have to drive the car bc my daily is out of order right now. Can anyone help??

As long as it is the same grade of oil it shouldnt matter. I've mixed and matched different oil brands multiple times before with no issues.

But also, running it a little shy on oil for a couple days isnt really an issue either. There should still be a decent amount of oil in there.

I believe API specifications require that all oils of the same grade can be mixed. It is no different really than changing your brand of oil at an oil change. You do not remove 100% of the oil in your car, so you would be mixing oil brands at that time as well.

I agree with the other answers. Adding a quart of something else isn't going to hurt your car. The additives will be different but that isn't even totally a bad thing. I'd stick with oil recommended by BMW, however. I use Mobil 1 0-40 European formula - available at Walmart. It's pretty reasonable in the 5 qt containers but about as pricey as BMW oil in a 1 qt bottle.
