If anyone is using these wheels on the big track with track tires could you post your use. These wheels look like a great bargain.
When these came out last year, they were a huge hit. They have all of last season as a test bed, on many, many club racer's cars as the test.

They were originally made due to people wanting something slightly wider than the Kosei K1 Racings (17x8.5), while still being light and cheap. Kosei had stated that they were going to halt production of the K1 Racing wheels, and DForce went to making a mold. I think they did a great job of accomplishing what they set out to do.

I've used them for a few DEs, and about 20 autocrosses, and they are still great.

I know it's a silly name, but the price is right, the looks appealing (at least to me) and the weight reasonably low.
they are good looking but I love the CSL look. I love the way the spokes fall in to the center. those are the perfect size and offset though 18X8.5 with 40 mm

OK, here is what I have found out about CSL reps:
- There are at least 2 manufacturers - one of them appears to have better fit&finish than the other. I'm not sure which is which, you can probably investigate/ask this on the e90post wheel & tire forum. I seem to remember that the supposedly better ones have letters "engraved" on the hub, just like the original CSL's.
- Some people have had trouble balancing these wheels with TPMS inside.
- They seem reasonably sturdy for street driving. They are pretty heavy.

I almost bought a set of 19" hyperblacks for my 335, but finally gave up (short lease, heavy wheels, uncertainty regarding the quality).

Common vendors seem to be JLevi (http://www.jlevistreetwerks.com/), EAS (http://www.europeanautosource.com/) and Umnitza (http://www.umnitza.com/). There may be others of course, but I've had dealings with these and been treated right by all of them.

I hope I haven't posted old info, or anything that's not right by the forum rules - I have no affiliation with any of these vendors...

Do you have an idea of how much the steering lock is shortened by this set up in comparison to stock? I am curious to how significant it is?

Thanks.

If you're thinking about daily driving this setup.. do not do it. It will/does tramline like a mofo, following every crack in the road. and the ride quality siffers greatly. Adding that much of a contact patch introduces a lot of road/tire noise as well.

I get no rub on lock though, in either direction, and I thought I would.

The tramlining may beat least in part a function of tire choice. My E46 330 would yank the wheel out of my hand when I had Yoko ES100's on it, but there was almost no tramling with PS2's. Lots less noise, too. No doubt the wider the tire, the more it is likely to tramline.

Great to hear there is no rub on lock. Even better!

The rest sounds just fine to me (probably not for most however). I am used to driving around relatively "race set up" cars. My longest commute tends to be attending the local autocross anyway. I am buying the 135i 1st to compete, 2nd for sporty driving, and 3rd for practical transport. Stock wheels/tires are always in the garage if needed.

Thanks for the info.

One more question regarding "rubbing" in general on fenders and such:

Have you pushed the car extremely hard (autocross intensity) with this 17x9 setup and still have no rubbing?

I apologize for the nit picky clarification but being an autocrosser yourself I am sure you get my drift.

Thanks again for all your feedback on this setup, it is extremely helpful for us who don't have our cars or wheels yet.

I had them on for a few days with no rubbing, but my first autocross is next Sunday, and I'll report back. I don't expect any rubbing though...

Larry -

What if I found a 17x8.5 et 35 wheel for the rear. Could the rear tire go out 6 more mm?

How about 35mm up front if I had -3.5 degrees camber?

How did Sunday go? Did the car perform well with the wheel and tire set up?

What were your overall impressions of the car as an autocross car?

Was the E-diff useful at all?

Thanks.

Saw your car on the bimmerforums thread on the Bimmerworld 135i buildup... looking good!

Just wondering if you have any close up shots of the 17x9 LTW5 over your front brakes... I'm running a custom 345mm rotor Brembo setup and I'm hoping I can downsize to 17"... this should give me a fairly good idea if it'll fit...

THanks!!

Hi Joon, Those wheels are not currently mounted on the car, but when I put them back on, I'll post some pics.

Next weekend, I have Evolution Autocross School, and I'll have 'em mounted up for that.

Sounds good.. looking forward to your pics

I think the Bimmerworld guys took your cue and went LTW5 too but they're using 18x9 on 255/35R18 PS2's... I'm on 245/40R18's now though I prefer 17"s coz of the lighter weight and cheaper tyres..

Any news Larry? Any issues when autocrossing? I know you had mentioned in another thread you were pleasantly surprised with the eLSD. Could you give us a full review of the wheels/tires and overall autocross impressions with them on?

Thanks.

Yes.. I have a retraction to make... they fit on there, but the fronts rub on an autocross run, the backs not really. I was getting worried about it at the EVO school and swapped back to my stock tires. I do have to say that while they were on... what understeer?

I falsely assumed that since they don't rub on the street, even when doing "abnormal" maneuvers, I thought they'd be okay on the autocross course. My car is lowered and has about -1.5 of camber up front.

I do have to say that side-by-side, my 255 Advan Neovas are about an inch wider than my 255 RE-050As that I bought recently. They are wider than any other 255 I've seen. This explains how the 1Lap car ran 255 PS2's.

I could get these to not rub with a smidgeon more negative camber and/or a slight fender roll, but I don't think I want to do that to my brand new car. Looks like I may buy some 245 Neovas for the front and keep the other two 255s for replacement rear tires.

I would not recommend the 255's up front even on the street. It negatively impacts the steering.

As for the front brake caliper clearance on the 17" LTW5's, there's about 5/8" between the caliper and the wheel.. more than I expected.

Hey thanks for the update..

Neova AD07's are among the widest tyres on the market.. they are consistently 15-20mm wider than most other tyres for a given size.. they are extremely popular here in Asia and we use them a lot.. the grip is almost comparable to the far more expensive A048 in MH compound

Is it a problem with tramlining? PS2s solved that problem on my 330. Maybe they would do the same on the 1.

Yes, worst tramlining I've felt on a car. I had these tires and wheels mounted on both the e90 and my 332ti, and it didn't wander nearly this much.

In what way?

I checked the 245/17 diameter on TireRack and it seems to be 24.7" (vs. 25" for the 255) - aren't you concerned of running different diameters front and rear?

(Stock diameters are 24.8" if not mistaken).

.3" is within the tire wear diameter of a tire (you actually lose an inch in diameter from a new tire to a spent one). So that doesn't concern me at all. this is not for street purposes, only track/autox. My stock wheels and tires stay on for daily driving.
