DC/MD/VA roll call & July meet planning

Hi All,

This thread was originally about how I saw a VO 1M on 495 on June 23 (I gave a thumbs up from my wife's SUV), but it has evolved into a thread about planning a DC area meet so I thought I'd update the first post.

UPDATE! We have finalized a meet date! We also have a tentative meet time and location!

Meet location: Gravelly Point Park (off of GW Parkway)
Meet date: July 8, 2012
Meet time: 9am-11am

NOTE: While the date is fixed, the location and time are subject to change. Therefore, please make sure to check this thread on Saturday, July 7th, for the latest location information!

Near Georgetown Pike area? I see a VO around that area a lot.

Yes I think we should have a second meet. We should have it some where closer to DC. I suggest we meet in Georgetown, Bethesda or Rockville. I noticed some relatively spacious areas that may work.

Yeah, it was a few miles before the American Legion bridge, after the 270 merge onto the outer loop. If you see a VO there a lot, that may be mine. I take 495 into VA every day on my commute to work. If it's a VO with black wheels and 1Addicts stickers on the rear windows then it's me.

Yes! I'm definitely down for another meet closer to DC. Georgetown would be cool but I'm not sure there's any place with enough parking spaces for a meet there. Rockville and Bethesda are good ideas too, though they may be a bit too far for some of the 1M owners that live further west (e.g., near Dulles Airport). Any of those places work for me, though.

What about Rock Creek Park? There is a parking lot on Beach Drive that has about 25 or 30 spots. Might be a good place to meet on a Saturday morning. I could make it on July 7.

That would be good too. I was thinking K street in Georgetown under the bridge next to the park. Great for photos too and would be nice in case of rain. It's a dead end street on that end and can take a good number of cars I think. In this area:

That's nice spot too. Btw I did spot a AW 1M in Bethesda about a week ago. How many in DC area you think there are. I know my dealer sold 4.

I saw a BSM 1M driving in at Sterling past the service bay when I had my VO 1M for service about a month ago, I assuming that may be you

Edit - I think a meet some where off GW would be good. Not a bad road to drive and I prefer to stay out of the city.

I can probably only make it on the 7th. GW parkway sounds good if there is parking.

you guys mind if an old e36 joins this meet? iv seen a VO 1m on Old Georgetown road twice. two days ago i saw a matte black 1m

The more the merrier. I think I might be the VO 1M in old georgetown road.
So are we good for the 8th of July? Are we good on location. I can go scout it out to make sure there would be enough space for say 6 cars so far. Also other suggestions are welcome.

Hey all, let's do this! I've got family visiting on July 4 so unfortunately I probably won't be able to make it to a meet on July 7-8. However, I'm down for a meet any other time.

In terms of location, how about Gravelly Point Park in Alexandria? It's on the bank of the Potomac right off GW Parkway and next to Reagan National Airport. There's a nice view of DC across the river and you can watch planes takeoff and land at the airport. It will make for a great photo opportunity

Google maps shows about 100 parking spots there so we should be good in terms of space. And it's at the end of the fun part of GW Parkway so folks can enjoy a nice drive there and back. I've never been there on a weekend though, so I'm not sure how packed the parking lot gets. And there aren't any coffee shops/restaurants nearby so we'll have to bring our own refreshments and chairs.

Another neat place to do a meet would be in the parking lots on Pennsylvania Ave or Maryland Ave right across from the U.S. Capitol building. Now that would be a true DC meet! It's tourist season though, so it may be hard to find enough spots next to each other on a weekend unless we meet early in the morning. Even if we can't meet there, it'd be cool to ride there after a meet and get a group photo!

I think that if we're willing to organize an early morning meet (e.g., 7am-10am) then we shouldn't run into problems with traffic or parking at most places in our area. Any later and we won't be able to avoid the crowds, especially on weekends.

I missed the last one, bummer. I will definitely try to make it for the next one, Alexandria sounds good. I'm out on the weekend of July 14-15, other than that, I should be open!

Aside from the meet, we can do a Skyline Dr type drive in Summer before it becomes cold again

Agree. We should prepare for a good meeting with most being able to come. It's DC after all :-)).

May you guys please put in the color of your 1M and potential good date for you. That way we have a count and can chose a final date that's good for all.
