Gonna miss her

Well, I'm heading off to London for a whole year in 2 weeks time. I am really really reeeeaaaallly gonna miss the 1er.

Every time I get in the car now I am getting nostalgic. I get teary in the eye and hear violins playing in the background.

Only 13 more days to enjoy her

I thought about selling, but decided against it. I'll need a car when I get back, and truth be told I'm emotionally attached to her.

I am undecided about getting a car over there. I'll be using the tube/rail for daily commuting, and maybe I'll rent for weekend road trips. Organising insurance over there is a real hassle apparently.

That being said, all my mates are urging me to get 911, Aston etc since they are relatively much cheaper. Unfortunately my funds are not bottomless and a fellow's wage is pretty meagre.

Just remember to have somebody start and move the car every 2 weeks or so.

Craniofacial fellowship at Kings College Hospital. 911 would be fantastic, but I have decided not to get any car. Insurance + congestion car tax + no secure parking + selling up at the end = too much hassle.

I'm getting my old man to fire her up every week. Thing is, my dad is not what you would call a spirited driver... I'll need to encourage him to live dangerously for a change

My vote - sell the 135i, take the money, get something really cool in the UK (combined with their low second-hand prices you also have the benefit of 61p to the AUD) and repurchase a 135i when you get back to Oz.

For the ~40k sterling you'd probably get for your 135i here you can get some bloody nice metal over there, and you probably won't lose all that much on the resale.

I agree with taipan. No point leaving a car to sit for a year and depreciate. For 40 quid you can get used 360s and 430s!

a year in london with no 1er! you will need craniofacial surgery to get the depressed look off your face!

for stress relief, hire a fast car in london and drive to berlin and back on the autobarns. i would kill to do that in my 1er.

Believe me I thought long and hard about this, but in the end, it just wasn't worth it. As you said I can buy a damn fine car for the money, but I will not have secure parking, insurance will be through the roof and I will take another slug when I sell it to come home. It would be a different story if I was going to drive every day and I was staying for more than a year. As it is I will only be driving on weekends, if that.

- Parking: Don't worry about parking on the street, in the UK people park all sorts of sensational cars on the street using a resident's permit.
- Insurance: When I moved to the UK (8 years ago) certain insurance providers will honour your Aussie NCB and give you the maximum NCB over there, which means you don't have to start from scratch.
- Resale: Also, given the values of cars at the moment I doubt you'll have to take too much of a hit when you resell, they're pretty much rock bottom at the moment.
- Weekends: Live for the weekends when you can drive your 997, Aston or whatever! Plus, if you're in London, you'll be pleasantly surprised how convenient it can be to drive after hours and on weekends (mainly because their equivalents of "no standing" zones open up as free parking after 7pm).

Ok, you guys have got me thinking that maybe, perhaps maybe I should sell up after all.

Need your advice re: a reasonable price for it.

2009 BSM 135
Manual
PDC
Business Nav
Sunroof
Tint/protection package
16500km
Mint condition

I have a potential buyer and want to quote a reasonable price. I'll look around in the meantime but the advice on this forum is pretty much usually right on the mark.

Good move! Seriously, if you don't sell, once you get to the UK and see the sorts of cars you can get for ~40k GBP you will weep.

From the going rates for members who have sold their cars recently, seems like high 60s/low 70s seems to be about the go. The fact that BMW recently increased the list price of the 135i coupe from $72,800 to $74,700 will also work in your favour.

well considering the 2011 135 will set you back mid 80's with similar options i think that low 70s for your car is a reasonable price.
