Interior Cleaning

I just got my 128i a week ago and I was wondering what does everyone on here use to clean their dash, doors, glovebox, etc? I do not want any glossy look or greasy feel. I've seen people talk about 303, but was sure what kind of finish it leaves behind.

On my other cars I just have been using a damp cloth lately, but wasn't sure about vinyl longevity with this method.

Many people have highly recommended Einszett Cockpit Premium, which supposedly leaves things completely matte and new looking. I just got mine in the mail the other day and plan to try it out this weekend as it can be used on basically everything, including supposedly doing a great job on nav screens, as well.

Make sure you throw on some 303 protectant so that it has some UV protection.

I use Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer Cleaner,
it is inexpensive and cleans well without the glossy armor look.

I just wipe with a damp rag each time I wash my car (biweekly, typically) and apply Vinylex once a year using an old clean sock over my hand (for maximum application control).

+1 on the 1Z einszett Cockpit Premium, it's my favorite, but at over $10/bottle, I do admit to using Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer Cleaner for less than half the cost. It's almost as good and a better value.

Haven't tried 303 or Sonax, but both are popular.

I do recommend Details Domain (forum sponsor), who carries all these products.

The Meguiar's does look to be a pretty good value.

I've used both Einszett and 303. Einszett leaves a better smell than 303 and doesn't have any shine after wiping off (looks completely matte), but 303 to me, cleans better and provides a little bit of shine where it's not completely matte, but definitely isn't greasy or shiny.

My bottle just arrived today. My wife rolled her eyes... "What's that for? More car stuff? You gotta be kidding..." Wait until she sees the other car cleaning/detailing stuff that Amazon didn't ship in today's shipment...

Ha! Ya, the mail department at work who is constantly delivering items to me keep asking every time, "what did you get for your car now?!" I've gotten a keychain, then came custom made floormats, then clay, then the einszett.

I'll be trying it out any day now as when they did the oil change the other day they must have hit the menu button on idrive with dirty hands to reset the tire pressure monitoring system since that screen was up when I got the car back and I noticed it's all greasy there now and ain't cause of me!

Now I may order that Collinite 845 everyone seems to love. O=| Can you really ever have enough car cleaning products?

chemical guys interior clean works just like Einszett, except it has a pineapple/pina colada scent which is amazing lol. leaves everything matte just like out of factory and it has UV protectant, like most interior cleaners.

I should have read this, but I decided to try the 303 and do not like the finish. It is definitely not matte and is a little too shiny for me.

Will it wear off over time? I don't really want to go over it with Einszett and will try to live with it (even though I didn't like it at first, like an idiot I decided to do the whole interior so at least it's consistent).

I use Meguiars Natural shine protectant. Cleans and protects from UV rays. Looks great.

What does that sonax one smell like? Does it have a strong smell like the cockpit premium does?

It's similar in terms of strength when you first spray it, but it disappears within a few hours. My car doesn't smell at all one day after doing a quick wipedown of the dash with it. This is the Sonax product, that is.

I like it. The end result is indistinguishable from Cockpit Premium.

I like to start by wiping everything down with a damp clean rag like an old t shirt or sock. I then do the plastics with Meguiar's vinyl and rubber restorer/protectant and it gives it a nice new look. Then I'll do all the leather look pieces like the dash with Meguiar's quick interior detailer. Then I do my seats with Optimum leather protectant. When I do my carpet I usually take my rubber floor mats out. I scrub those with a little soap and water, let them dry, and then apply the vinyl/rubber restorer. It makes those puppies look brand new! I then vacuum all the big stuff out of the carpet, and something I just discovered that works really well on the carpet is to take a clothing lint roller and use that. It gets everything the vacuum left behind. All the glass I spray some windex on a microfiber cloth and wipe the windows down.

^ don't use windex on automotive glass. Look into Stoner's glass cleaners.
