Inconvenient Rock Chip Location
I've been trying to figure out a how to fix/fill a deep rock chip on the front edge of my hood. Dr. Colorchip won't fill it enough and it seems like the Lanka system would be difficult, if not impossible to get even with the lip of the hood. As you can see from the picture, the chip is pretty deep, clearly at least down to the primer.
Any ideas/tips/experience would be much appreciated. I really want to seal it to protect the surrounding clear-coat.

Since it's pretty deep, I think you need to be patient and fill it in layer by layer.

As bmw1racer mentioned, you need to fill the chip with the paint. Patience will pay off. I would also look into using a very small spot sanding pen to get any tiny pieces of debris out of that hole as it's pretty severe. It looks like you have a pretty bad crack along that top edge as well which may be loose- not sure.

Use sanding pen to clean it out, wipe it down and fill it in patiently with the OEM touch up kit. Because you'll be applying a relatively large amount be sure to give it plenty of time to dry (at least 12 hours, longer if it's humid). I would finish off with Langka blob eliminator.
In a way I think it's best location to get a chip since it's not directly in your view. If you're feeling brave, you can try wet sanding and polishing like this guy: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=617142 |
