Halos

'11 135i equipped with Xenon headlights, adaptive light control and DRL.

As you can see in the pics the halos are not on. Also, the DRL's do not turn on. What could be the issue?

Looks like I may have to replace the bulbs? Any recommendations to keep the xenon and halos matching?

A friend of mine had this happen to his car. His problem was he installed 100watt AE bulbs from Japan(stock is 35watts - I think?)... they looked great for awhile(~2 month) but they produced so much heat they melted the fiber optics of the AE. In the end he had to replace BOTH headlights. $$$$

I hope that's not your problem. Easiest thing would be to pull out the driver's AE bulb and see if its good. Or maybe pull the glove box(down) and check the fuse card for the fuse. Seems odd that BOTH AE's are out.

Good Luck,
Dackel

This is strange - The warm lights control the Halo's and they are just on or off I think. Maybe they are misaligned or something. I replaced mine with the LUX angel eyes and they look great. Maybe you don't have stock Xenons?

@Dackelone I really hope I don't need to replace the headlights.

@heeblet It does not look like stock xenons. This is how it came when purchased.

@TwinTurboXI I have CPO til 2016. which will not cover this. I also extended warranty with Hendrick Autoguard til 2018. Unsure if this warranty will cover this fix.

Currently I'm debating on having the extended warranty cancelled and getting a full refund (deductible $50). Could y'all help me out with this? Noob here.

Check your fuse first. The the AE bulbs and for power at the AE bulbs. And double check your iDrive setup for DRL. IF all is good... you will need new headlights! ~$1,500 for two headlamps plus install. Time to go to an expert for a 2nd opinion. I would not cancel that extended warranty just yet! It might save your a$$.

So extended warranties cover headlights?

I would find someone that has BMWhat or other coding abilities and see if maybe they are just coded off? I know I've done it on accident once, just the DRL completely off though.

No idea. You should check with your extended warranty company.

Also... IF its really your headlight unit thats bad... you may be able to claim it under your comp insurance as a stone or water ingress problem. Again, maybe ask your agent.

I think your first step is to figure out WHAT is the problem, then go from there.

Did you just buy the car? How did your car pass a state inspection? That also might be one way to get it covered. The selling dealer should have caught that.

@dackelone got the car in January. Tried to access the fuse box - do I have to completely remove the glove compartment?

I'm hoping all I have to do is replace the halo bulbs. Any recommendations on halo replacement bulbs that will match my current headlight setup? what about these... http://burgertuning.com/BMW_Angel_Eyes_H8_Bulbs.html or http://www.amazon.com/GP-Thunder-Pla...=gp+thunder+h8

Yeah I followed that, but the glove compartment drops down. The fuse box is deep and I can barely view the fuses.

Was my suggestion way out in left field? I think this coding scenario is still a possibility...

Was about to replace the halo bulbs, but this doesn't look normal. Am I missing something here?
