Mine doesn't break necks, I think the color is just too subtle, or that it looks like the base model on the outside...

There was a black pre-LCI 135i behind me today with red aftermarket bucket seats, anyone here?

Every morning when I leave her parked at work I look behind me a few times as I walk away, just to have one last glance... she looks so good at dawn when the sun is low and its gentle rays are caressing her body; accentuating all those subtle yet tantalizing curves and sharp but sexy creases.

You guys are crazy. The 1er is not a particularly good looking car. Fun to drive, though!

It's definitely polarizing. You either love its looks or you don't.

Agreed here. I think that's why it didn't do particularly well with the usual BMW crowd. I think it's one of the best looking cars of it's years. My own neck gets turned every time I walk away from it

Hyundai makes some fine cars these days, I have owned new ones. Totally reliable, and with great features. Not BMW quality, but great transportation cars for the non-enthuseast.

I think it looks awesome, especially in the right colors and with the Perf. Aero front bumper (it's on the wishlist), it really harks back to the '02. Big headlights, pugnacious nose, tall greenhouse, short rear deck, small overhangs. It's not traditionally beautiful like a Triumph GT6 (), but it's beautiful in it's uniqueness and it's fundamental simplicity compared to the other BMW's of the time.

Back in 2010 when I bought mine, I really wasn't taken by the looks of the car, in fact it was a major obstacle for me, but I bought it because of how it drove, and the sound of the i6. Now the looks of the car have really grown on me, I think it's aged very well!

For me one of the best things about the 1-series is how small it is.
This thing is tiny.
Like a bundle of highly concentrated, condensed and compressed energy.
Small car with big motor, big wheels, big brakes, big exhaust pipes and even bigger personality.
Nothing about it is diluted or smoothed out just to appeal to majority... those are qualities so hard to find these days.

I have Titanium Silver vert and it doesn't ever get looks with the middle aged bald guy driving it but when this hot little Ice Cream licker shows up steals the show. I could have a naked model in the passenger seat doubt anyone would care but the white fluffball I call Sammy having the time of her life with the top down folks can't help but discuss, chase and admire.

Yeah, it’s the same length that my Cayman was (and slightly narrower and taller,) but it manages to add usable back seats. Perfect.

In terms of looks, the 2002 was also considered somewhat odd looking in its time, and I think our 1ers will also age gracefully.

Not sure where all of you live, but in my almost 1 year of ownership of the e88, I've not received one comment from a passer-by about the car. I do agree with most of the comments above, it's either love it or hate looks. I've also not found a direct replacement for this car in regard to it's configuration, so guess I'll keep it a while longer...

It's the most recent car that I like the looks of enough to want to own. But as has been stated many times - looks are a preference. That is why the paint store has so many colors.

Also just preference - there are Japanese cars out there that are for me too ugly to own. Worst is Lexus and Toyota. The Japanese have gone for 50's sci-fi looks.

50's Sci-Fi looks were actually cool, and classy. It's like Toyota/Lexus took their design team, threw them in an industrial tumble dryer, and then made them immediately start drawing

To start with the rear end looked odd to me, but the more I look at it, it all hangs together nicely. One of the reasons I bought it was it sits higher with better visibility to the side than a lot of sports / coupes, a real asset in heavy traffic.

You're talking about the BMW Performance front bumper, yes? I've considered getting that along with the Performance side skirts several times over the years. Couple of things have made me hesitate. First, I really like the stock 135i front bumper and can't make up my mind if I like the Perf. bumper more, enough to make the purchase. Second, it looks like the Perf. bumper is a little lower than the stock 135i bumper and I don't want to scrape it. I already scrape those rubber flaps in the front of my car on occasion as it is. So, since I can't make a decision, I do nothing. I'm such a procrastinator.

Yeah, as mentioned above, love the tall greenhouse. Not only is it practical but I like the way it looks as well.

Also, the rear end is the 1er's best view imo. Then the profile and then the front. Love it all though.

PS - or are you talking about the seats being a little higher for better visibility, which I agree with too. lol

I dislike the fake vents on the side skirts. I dislike fake vents in general. YMMV

Yeah, it's definitely a 'looks' thing, and looks are subjective. They look pretty cool to me, but only with the Perf. front bumper.
