One of my favorite mods, and not expensive or difficult. When I took the 1er in for the Takata recall, the service manager commented on it, and said it is one of the things he misses from his ZHP.

It's just the knob, right? Not a whole shifter setup?
Mine is coming loose, so maybe it needs replacing...

Just the knob. It's an absolutely rebelious b***h to get off. The best method is to open the sun roof, put a foot on each front seat, and pull upwards with all of your might while looking away (you will hit yourself, hard).

Like I said, mine is already loose. I can twist it in my hand.

Stock knob is tied to the boot, so you should unclip the boot from the console first to avoid possibly tearing things apart.
Then pull on the knob to detach from the shift lever. To install the ZHP knob you need to separate the stock knob/boot assembly (there is a plastic collar glued to the top edge of the boot that needs to be removed), secure the open end of the boot to the shifter with a zip tie and finally bang the replacement knob into place till it clicks. Done. |

Well, mine certainly did. I just ground off the two little tabs on the knob with a Dremel and it pops on and off the boot just fine. I tried out the ZHP shift knob for a couple of weeks and decided I preferred the shape of the ZMP knob and was able to stick it right back on.
