The "ape", which modern humans evolved from, is the ape that evolved into the homo-sapien sapien, modern human. We are the evolved modern version of that ancestral ape.
The other apes amongst us fill their niche and thrive, thus there was no need to get rid of them. That's why they're still here with us.

Just because there is a new generation of BMW enthusiasts, that has no bearing on why a BMW model already called the "M1" should be ignored or forgotten.

That was actually a clear and simple explanation.
If that makes you drink, then maybe you shouldn't ask questions about topics that make you thirsty.

Call it the BMW ///M1 Coupe to delineate it from the ///M1 Supercar. We can pretend its just the coupe version of the namesake. Then, of course, have it "badged" ///M1. Simple, right?

I've seen lots of reports of 135M. Is that close?

Not my choice personally.

Well, if they are revealing the 328M, then they may make it 135M... which in my opinion will generate more people 'thinking' it is not a true M. Of course, if they make it 150M.... it seems more symetrical.

As we have been calling it the 1 series ///M, why not just call it the 1 series ///M and leave the badge as ///M?

Having said that ///1M actually doesn't look bad now that oztik has actually written it up.

For the car to sell though, they need to have it with the quads and powerdome etc. Otherwise, to a lot of people's mind it won't be a true M car but a 135 with M bits on it.

And what about playing with the way you write '1' in M1?

- //Mone .
-MI or Mi (I being the roman letter for '1')...

Or like in software version:
-M1.1
LOL

Just my 2 cents...

In the UK and Europe I believe, there is the 135i M Sport so I think 135M would be too confusing. Also known as M packet.

Because the 3 the 5 and the 6 are the mainstream M models with normal life cycles. The really cool M cars like the z3 the z4 or the 1 series are to plug in the holes in M GmbHs' top line, unfortunately. maybe thats why it should be named 1M. If they use the 135 or the is nomenclature though they are just watering down the concept, even if the car might turn out extremely capable.

BMW, you FAILED. No M1, I am getting a G-Power Supercharged M3 with Vorsteiner Widebody.
PS: From now on I will say the Original M1 (E26) is not a BMW but a rebadged Lamborghini with half Lamborghini V12 engine, and not BMW I6 engine.

Oh that's sounds like sour grapes.

Are you sure you aren't just having an off day?

I know you are happy I now hate BMW, but don't think I am going over to Audi S/RS, I have just seen the pics of the new 6 GC and IMO it kills all 4 door coupes in the world, including the very beautifull Rapide and Estoque. And the Audi R8 is also a rebadged Lamborghini Gallardo with Lamborghini V10 engine, just built 30 years later than BMW's Lamborghini.

+1 and +1 - the GC definitely looks grand and I never thought the R8 that way, but the M1 only had a very limited run - unlike the R8.

Although I was a big advocate in calling it the M1, as long as the name is clearly regconizable as a true M car of the 1 series that's enough. Scott mentioned GTS spec 1 before, may be ///M Coupe spec 1?

I would hate it to be called 135M or M135 as it clearly relates it back as a M version of the 135, and not a stand alone M version like the M3. However, the more I think about it. ///M150 clearly differentiate it as a far superior car to the 135i, as well as the 740, and 335is.

Or another thought - ///M1.5 lol!

My preferred name is actually "1 series ///M", ///1M next, and followed by ///M150.

Imagine if it's like 1 ///MDrive...

How about M1-C?

That's interesting. I was going to say it wouldn't work because it already combines two separate things: //M + tii. I change my mind because there is a //M + GTS--> M3 GTS.

Scott should tell us if anybody in this ridiculously large thread got the name right.
