AMS - RS3 vs 1M vs Cayman R

I won't copy DeDe's post but you can see the scans ect. through the following link

http://www.**************.com/intern...tml#post515695

But I translated what they awarded points for

** means the RS3 was deducted 2 points for high tyre wear.

in any case RS3 is always same A3 that we see since 10 years....no style no change, always same design....and sure with 4 motion is easier to drive...but in any case...BMW is pure motorsport....

I love these generic M responses. They almost seem religious in a blind faith sort of manner.

Things I gather from this.
1. We have more proof that the C&D 0-60 times for the RS3 are BS.
2. Comparing DSG cars against manual gearboxes is a waste of time.
3. Of course AWD cars are going to do better in the wet.

The 80-120Kph times in 5th gear are quite interesting:

6.5s for the Cayman
6.1s for the RS3
4.7s for the 1M

I'm sure the RS3 is a great car (and having owned a B5 RS4 and a very modified TT, I'm in no way anti-Audi) but some of the results confuse me in this test. How can the car with the best slalom time supposedly have the worst steering?

Base Price is a bit strange as well, seeing as the RS3 & the 1M cost the same price - at least in the UK they do, maybe different in Germany I guess

I'm going all the way for elasticity and stability and just don't care so much for the rest

C&D tested the TTRS though, which is ~140kg lighter than this and we also saw in those debates that European testers rarely match US test figures.
The RS3 only comes in S-Tronic and has the same base price as the 1M in Germany so I would think this is a good comparison.

Steering feel and precision would not really come into the slalom results though, it is more a test of the cars balance and stability . Maybe they found it too heavy, was there not a dislike on the heaviness in another road test, I am not 100% so correct me if I am wrong.

Edit: I found it, it was AMS in their first single test of the 1M. One of the negatives they mentioned was "unnecessarily heavy, somewhat insensitive steering"

here is the first impression test (some nice pics in it)

The RS3 is only 600 euro cheaper there.

from reading it again it says in the cost section,

"Bester erhalt volle Punktzahl"

so

"the best gets full points"

so that is why the RS3 got the full 15 and it seems they work back from there to the other car but doesn't fully explain the 9 for the 1M. Maybe it must have been more of an overall judgement, so that while there prices are similar, they may have included interior quality/fixtures and also maybe the fact it had 4wd ect. in their consideration and in overall thought you got more for your money in the Audi??? But I find it hard to believe the Audi can be that much better value.
