Who says this isn't a winter car?

Kudos to the guy driving on Walnut Street in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh today with the Cashmere Silver 128i convertible. He was doing far better on the treacherous ice and snow we had today than either the Ford pickup truck (who spent 30 seconds spinning his rear wheels at a red light....meaning we had to wait for the light to change back again before we could go,) or the Toyota Corolla (same situation as pickup, just different location.)

What a difference winter tires make!

Yeah, I really beleive in winter tires. They can turn a poor winter car into a good one, and a good one becomes almost unstoppable.

I couldn't imagine owning a 1er in our state without snows, or unless you don't have to drive it in bad weather (my plan).

jkp--how much snow do you have? After yesterday, around 10-12 inches on the ground here, an hour west of Penn State.

Several inches. But the real problem was that we got up to 34*-35* yesterday and things started to melt a little bit, then everything froze sold again overnight.

Yeah winter tires are a life saver. I'm driving my 135 year round here in Canada and have taken it out to the ski hills a couple times with no problems. Even saw an E92 M3 at Lake Louise last week. There has only been 3 days when I wouldn't take the car out this winter and in those conditions it didn't matter what you were driving (AWD or otherwise), if you stopped, you were stuck.

The right tires and proper attention to the road, and this car is great in winter.

Too many people don't know HOW to drive in the first place and put cheap cruddy tires on their autos to save money and then wonder why they spin out or get stuck.

I have about 2 feet of snow on the ground here and both the wife and I drive the 1 series with Dunlop Wintersport 3D tires with no problems. Spend the money on the winter tires. It is smart money and a must do in this part of the country.
