The tint shop is one of the first places I'm going to take mine after I bring it home. I don't think I'm going to go more than 40% though. I've got 60% on my current ride but with a darker interior than the coral that's coming in my 1er.
Also, it's great to hear that the mirrors aren't so bad. The pictures I've seen of the mirrors on all the darker cars look pretty good. The one AW '10 that i've seen so far may have just been bad picture angles and lighting. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! |

I heard all the cars going LA sit at inspection for 6 weeks to uncover all the weed buried in your special hidden compartments...hmm no wonder for the 60% tint!!

Just spoke to my tint guy. He's busy this weekend but next weekend I'll be getting mine done (20%). I am contemplating doing a clear bra but don't know if I want to drop the grand to get it done right... it's also a lease. I just dropped $1,500 on my winter setup to boot.

Which wheels and tires did you get for your winter setup?
I'm planning on getting either the Blizzak LM-25 RFTs or the Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3Ds. I can't decide if I want to risk riding around in non-RFTs without a spare or not. I want the TR Motorsport C2 wheels. |

I got the Dunlops. My ex girlfriend had an STI with blizzaks and I had an Altima SE-R at the time with Dunlops. My car was FAR better in the snow, despite lacking the AWD. I truly believe that Dunlop makes the best performance winter tire.
Tirerack is also insanely fast. I ordered at like 5pm on Tuesday and had them yesterday using ground shipping. These are the wheels:

Yeah, I'm a fan of Dunlop tires. I've run SP 8000's, SP 9000's, and SP Maxx's on previous cars and all were great tires. I just don't know if I want to risk not having a spare with non-RFTs. I guess I could get the BMW repair kit that comes with tire sealer and an air pump, but that's an extra cost.
These are the TRM C2s: |

The spare tire in my Lotus was a can of fix-a-flat. It's really not that major not to have a spare. We have roadside assistance and the tread on snow tires is very deep.
Also, the less open area the better for a winter wheel. Snow gets into the openings and throws the balance off which makes the car hop all over the place.

It doesn't usually snow in quantities more than an inch or two at a time here in MD. I'm not really concerned about deep snow. I'm getting the winter setup because of the lower temperatures, ice, sleet, and getting caught at work in the occasional light snow. Usually I just telecommute if it's really bad out. I like the TRMs because they are lighter and are a direct fitment without having spacers or alignment disks. They also look easier to keep clean since they are painted gray and don't have as many spokes.
Your point about the can of fix-a-flat is a good one. I don't know why a solution that simple hadn't occurred to me. |
