Heard a pop and now tire is flat
On my way home - I heard a pop on the left rear tire. By the time I got home I got the low pressure warning.
Called in to have it towed to the dealer tomorrow. What are the chances that: 1. It'll just be a tire patch job (on RFT)? 2. Replace both rear tires? 3. Only replace the flat tire? I have the tire/wheel insurance package so it shouldn't cost any money. Would they have to balance and realign the tires? |

RFT can be patched just like any other tire however since you heard a pop my guess is it will be more then just a nail so tire may need to be replaced.
It will be up to you to buy the other tire if you want 2 new tires most likely. New tire would need to be balanced but car will not need to be realigned unless you hit something and it is now out of alignment.

If you have the tire/wheel insurance package I would bet they will give you the cheapest solution. That may be OK if there are low miles on the tires, but if you have over 10k on them you need to check them for wear because it is not a good thing to put on only 1 new tire if the other three are worn.

If you drove on the tire after it blew then they probably cannot patch it since the structural integrity of the tire could have been damaged by driving on it flat. Otherwise yes you can patch a runflat although many places wont because of liability issues (they dont know if you drove on it or not).
Regardless if you have the insurance they will get you a new tire. |

Off topic - Nice pic in your sig line. Not really sure I would have gone the same way with the wheels, but it is a striking effect. What sort of tires are you running, I can barely see any rubber. |

Talk to SA today - says most likely it will be single tire replacement. =( Don't know if I can force them to replace at least 2. SA says alignment won't be a major issue if it is rear tires. SA also says they will balance to adjust for new tire. |
