I Bet I Know Something About Your 1 Series You Don't Know. ;)

Cold outside? running into the store or gas station and have your car shut off? Have your girlfriend or friend in the car and it is cold and you have had to shut the car off?

Literally know my car very very well and didnt know this.

If it is cold out and you have been driving around such that your motor is warm, you can use the following feature after the car has been shut off:

"Rest"

basically, once your car is warm, even after shutting it off, you can tap the rest button and your vents will turn on and continue to blow the warm air from the warm fluid still in the heater core. This can provide heat for a good hour or more. So when you are sitting outside waiting, and have your motor off, or a huge variety of other winter things, you can stay warm! and be eco friendly using heat that would otherwise be wasted anyways.
It is very cool and useful. Perfect example today, tinting my car in my friend's garage, super cold, just threw on rest the whole time, warmed eveyrhting right up. Got back in my car and it was like 90 degrees.

I believe that feature was removed from the current versions of the 1-series.

"As someone already stated...the REST (RESidual heaT) button was changed to the MAX button on later model BMWs. And the residual heat feature was retained. All of the same requirements are needed for this feature to function even when you have the MAX button.

See the information below from your owners manual on how your IHKA system works depending on if you have the MAX button or the REST button"

Really? My 06 E90 had this feature and I don't think it's a big deal.

I have that feature, but I'd much rather have the dual/single climate control button. So I can adjust the hvac as a single zone with just one knob. I believe later versions of the 1 have that feature instead of the resid heating.

No, it disappeared in 2010. My 2011 128i with cold package has the Max button

My 2009 has the "Max" button on the left and the "Rest" button on the right. With weather cooling off here, this thread is a nice reminder we don't have to keep the engine running to have some heat.

Correct, my 2012 is like this. The button is now called "All".

Pretty sure my 2001 E39 Touring did this too. Pretty neat feature but I don't think I ever used it.

Just took delivery of a 2013 128i. It does not have the REST button, has the MAX button, BUT, if you have the Nav system with the associated controls (iDrive) you can access this feature through a set of menus - that I am still learning how to use.
