Just got my er intercooler today and not to happy with the welds!!!
Hey guys I did alot of research before I picked the er core and was expecting top notch quality..I opened the box and it was very well packed so there's was no damage,it came perfect..
When I pulled it out the box to look at the welds.I have to admit I was very unhappy with them they were very choppy and bumpy, not smooth at all..It actually looked like a ebay core, but the fin design was a high density and was exactly what I was looking for. The bottom line is,I paid a nice chunk for the kit and was expecting a bit more top notch welds.I hope the core itself, provides the performance and cooling like expected.DId you guys feel the same way I did with the welds???Thanks. Glad to say the welds on the HPF intercooler are pretty damn good!

Really ??I'm not to thrilled about their fins ! That's what's make a intercooler efficient!! The er might not have the greatest welds, but I bet you from the fin design it serves it's purpose very well ..it reminds me if the garret style cores used on supras, and evos!this is the fact of the matter, bigger is not always better ,but the fin makeup tells the story.I'm not the happiest right now ,but at least I got the anodized version..lol.

we will have our intercoolers back in stock in a few weeks. A lot of customers are people who ordered intercoolers like you did and decided to upgrade. You absolutely wouldnt have these kind of problems with the Helix intercooler.

From the pics of your intercoolers, your don't look any better either.Ill bet anything from the looks of the fins,it will out perform the helix and many others..I guess I have to deal with the welds, cause I heard this design on the fins and core are serious!!!

I suggest calling him directly, when i had a problem with my CF engine cover that i bought from **********s i contacted Fred directly and he treated me as if i bought directly from him. Most vendors don't even stock the parts but rather just order from them once they receive your order anyways...

I haven't been happy with ER's quality lately. Their charge pipe had fitment issues as well. Those welds look like they were done by a 5 year old. I think a blind grandma could do better than whoever did those welds. But, at the same time, look at the bright side, it won't leak!! LOL

I apologize for the welds. The bad looking welds in question is the side plate on the intercooler core itself. It's basically the extra sheet of material on the side of the intercooler that give extra protection on the charge row. Since this plate is welded directly onto the charge rows, it is very critical that you do not penetrate into the charge row. Basically, it's a bit difficult since if you screw up and penetrate into the charge row, you make a hole into the core and the core is no good. The core is the most expensive part of the intercooler so it's a bit stressful for the welder. Thus, his most important priority is to make sure there are no leaks.
Also, we are not the ones who welded that section. That is welded by our intercooler core manufacturer that we contract to build the cores for us. I will speak with them about this and get them to do a better job of welding. The ones we have here look fine to me. I don't have direct control of who welds which cores. I guess it's a hit or miss. Plus everyone has days when they're off. Even though it is not directly welded by us, it's still our responsibility so I apologize for this. We do try our best to be perfect but sometimes stuff just happens. If you want, we can exchange another FMIC assembly with you. Now, the welded section on the end tank to the intercooler core was done by us. I'm pretty sure the welding is pretty decent here as it's done by us. I'm pretty confident with our welders here.
