ER Widebody, 1M panels in front, or skinnier tires
Addicts,
I have a problem. It's a rubbing problem. My front tires are once again rubbing on the inside of my front quarter panels. Instead of compromising and going with 235 wide fronts to eliminate the rub, I want wider front panels. Really I only need .5" to .75" per side of width to make the setup fit, which is why I'm leery about the ER kit (2.5" per side). I'm aware that 1M panels on a non M car is aweful territory to be in, but if it's functional and I de-badge it, I see no issue with hating myself. Setup: Apex Arc-8's PSS 255/35-18 tires Dinan Koni Shocks/ Dinan springs (about .5" drop) mounted to Vorshlag camber plates M3 control arm and wishbones (everything fit perfectly before this, but I feel this is necessary) The handling right now is amazing, but bumps on the highway are killing my tires and I fear if I get into a drift situation at an event and I have to correct I will be rubbing with my current setup. Are there any options I missed? Feedback is appreciated. |

If you're going to do the front wide kit only I think it will proportionally look odd. Not sure how the handling will be effected with a wider front track compared to the rear track also. Can't think of any other car with wider front tracking than the rear. Just a thought

The wide body may look a little strange, but to eliminate fender rub, I think it's necessary. I could roll and flare the fenders, but then the front bumper will look strange as plastic won't retain it's deformed shape. |

All the wide body options will have draw backs. I got my 245 r comps with no rubbing. Have you rolled your fenders?

if you got the Im bumper/ fenders/ and side skirts you would have to mod your side skirts to fit a Non wide rear - probably a big pain in the ass. If you wanna come up to SF to check out my ER kit i just put on you are more than welcome to. it runs 9.5 squared now with 245's front and 255 rear. the car can hammer through turns now -
a lot of people seem to interpret the ER kits purpose as to 'make the front end wider THAN the rear' when in fact, the purpose is simply to just allow wider tires in the front - the proportions really arnt that noticeably different - |

Just FYI
The ER kit matches the track F to rear. As stock the rear sits I think almost an inch a half wider than the front. I also run a 245 square setup without issues. So maybe you should drop down one size in the front? I also know people who run 255 square setups on 8.5" Et40 rears. So I dont understand why youre having so many issues withe Arcs? |

I have the same hardware on mine. Max out the cambers, roll the fenders and go with 245's

Re-upping this thread to find out if anyone has fitted 1m panels on a 135i. I went with the ER Widebody and after an incredibly dissatisfying 2 months with SonicMS and ER, they've agreed to take the parts back. Granted, it fixed the rubbing issue, but there were many new issues created.
So, who's done 1m panels on a 135i? |

Glad everything worked out. My kit has some slight fitment issues and the car rubs a little at fulllock due to the wheels being wider but my fitment is 10x better than the photos you showed me. I have had the kit adjusted a bit since its initial install and everything fits better. I recently had some time to examine a 1M very closely. You should be able to bolt up a 1M bumper, fender well liners, and fenders no problem. Your e82 sideskirts however, will not line up in the front and 1M sideskirts will not line up in the rear. It is probably most effective just to have your current ones moulded to match the new fenders. Another thing I noticed on the 1m, the actual flat portion of rim of the fenders are much thinner than the 135i. Note, the 1M fender liners are a combination of M3 rear fender liners and special 1M front liners. They don't have prices for them on real OEM but HPA was able to get them for me. I would go to them first if you are considering getting the parts. |
