135i Coupe Rear Suspension Squeak Upon Entry

OK, I'm new here, and this could be old news? My car has done this since day one. Day 'ONE' Hahahaha....

Anyway, when you first sit in the car...plop your bum down, the rear susp. gives a little chirp. Never fails...all weather conditions...anytime of day or night.

Anyone? It's a tad embarassing actually. The car only has 5k orig. miles still to this day, and still does this!

HELP?

Thanks ahead of time,

BIKEBOY

Yeah, mine does it too. I didn't notice it until after I changed springs, but I figured it was normal.

Can anyone give a quick explanation of how this noise is related to the parking brake?

My car makes the same type of noise. I think it is coming from the rear springs moving in the perch. Its kind of a normal noise that I am use to now.

IF it really bothers you... try squirting some WD40 oil in where the spring sits on the rear suspension. I think there are rubber pads you can buy to place between the spring and spring perch/suspension carrier. I have heard one guy over here who lowered his 1er... the rear sat too low so he used the rubber pads from a six series - to slightly raise the rear suspension. I am sure IF you complained to BMW they would know which rubber pads to use as shims.

I think it might be the parking brake. I've also noticed this noise stock and now with coilovers.

My Z4 used to do it and if the handbrake is anything like the 1 series set-up, it's not the best. The Z4 was a Bowden cable operated system, with a brake shoe design rather than clamping onto the disc. Picture below should help to explain what I mean.
The 'shoe' creaks/squeaks as it moves very slightly when you get into the car!

That's my understanding of it, for the Z4 at least!

I have a MT. When the parking is on, which is always is when I first get into it, there is a slight squeak.
Apply parking brake, then get out of the car, no driver weight, release the parking brake, then get back in, no squeak.
I've also tried leaving it in the garage with no parking brake, just in gear, and the next morning, no squeak.
So, it could be the parking break, and if not, it's something else in some 1's.

Normal

I've got the squeak on my 135i from day one as well and had the squeak on my E46 previous. "Normal Vehicle Function" I believe Mike Miller would say.

I have this too. It's the parking brake. I've actually perfected my egress and ingress into the vehicle so that it doesn't squeak. It's quite graceful when you see it.

Incredible. I have been driving my 135i for four months now... about 3,500 miles... and I never noticed a "squeak upon entry"... until I read this post. Yup. I climbed into Liesel this morning and a distinct "chirp" emitted from beneath.

What has this taught me. I read about a problem and it suddenlys shows up on my car. Maybe I should stop reading this forum. Well... I should at least make sure not to read about any costly problems.

Thanks for all of the input guys.
The dealer told me that it was related to the parking brake, and I thought he was full of $hit. It seemed a bit odd of an answer until I have seen it explained here?

I had this same noise on my M3 and now on my 135. Figured it was normal but good to hear others are having the same noise.

I have gotten used to it now.

I only started the thread because I am new to the forum and it came to mind to ask if it was just my 'Monday' production car??? Lol!

It's not a tragedy really... It just sucks to take a friend for a ride in the thing for the first time, and they are left thinking they just plopped down into a Chevy Cobalt or something!!!

Eeeessshhh!!!
