Here is a video from last night:

Again, not bad for an off the shelf map on 93 octane with minor modifications.

That seems awfully quick for relatively minor mods. Has any other Cobb Stage 2+ owner been able to achieve similar results? I'm intrigued by the power potential on pump gas, however way too many variables I've seen on the forum with another guy running a second slower than Rnmevo9 and almost 13mph slower to boot...

Haven't run my stage 2+ yet but last year I did 12.5 @ 114 with stage 1 and dci, my cars also manual, Cobb is dominant

That is mighty impressive as well. I was debating between Dinan and Cobb, but after seeing this thread and many other Dinan threads (despite the bashing), I am leaning towards the Cobb AP.

Thanks again!

Cobb

I just installed my Cobb yesterday with a DCI and wow the car pulls so much harder. Tuesday i will take to the track again and see how much my MPH picks up as I feel traction will be a issue now. Ran best of 8.74 at 81.7mph bone stock.

its a 6 speed - most are comparing the times of autos...which will be slower than a capable driver in a 6 speed by .2-.3 of a second, IMO

If he's running a COBB he's N54, so that would be a steptronic, not DCT.

It's an '08 car, so def. a step or 6spd Manual, but not DCT.

OK, that means it's a steptronic. I clearly remember when he posted this on another forum he stated it was an auto.

I'd be hard pressed to shift that fast in a manual!

Yeah, its a 6 speed auto if he started in 2nd gear as 1st is way too short and all that he will do is spin spin spin. Starting in 2nd gear in a manual is a good way to replace your clutch sooner rather than later.

Oh yeah, and I'm very certain that 6MTs being faster than 6ATs is a true statement on many other platforms, but on this one, the auto simply accelerates faster thanks to its consistent shifts, holding boost between shifts and shorter gear ratios.

Different transmissions as those are N55's.

Regarding N54's, auto>manual on the strip until you upgrade turbo's...

so your argument is that BMW made the auto shittier and slower on the n55 than it was on the n54....nope, aint going to bite that one - doesn't make sense.

from this website:

The torque converter on the 335i is locked up one the car gets moving (if I recall correctly it locks up at 10mph). At that point power is not transmitted via a fluid coupling and there is a direct mechanical correction between the engine and the drive wheels. Once in motion the two transmissions behave very similarly although the technology doing the shifting is very different.
The DCT will shift faster but the step will shift very quickly. The difference in shift times between the two is measured in milliseconds (to keep this in perspective the blink of an eye is about (200 milliseconds). Keep in mind that a car does not stop moving while it is shifting gears, it merely stops accelerating.

Bottom line is that the DCT is not a much faster car.
(but it is)

No, you are just putting words in my mouth. I simply said that its a different transmission.

The fact is, the auto n54's are slightly faster than a similarly equipped manual n54. Manuals shine once you have a turbo upgrade as they are more cost effective to upgrade to handle the extra power.

personally, i think thats bc most people can't drive 6 speed well (not saying I can either, lol), and not so much bc the auto is "faster".....but to each his own - I don't want to argue, just stating what I have experienced.
