Refurbishing 269 wheels? Worth it?

The used 135i I bought came with 269 wheels - which I like a lot, but they have really bad curb rash (about 30% on each wheel) and the clearcoat in the center is starting to bubble and flake.

Is it worth trying to refinish/refurbish something like this? They still look good from a distance and IIRC they have 2 paint tones, plus clear, plus the BMW performance lettering.. I'm thinking it just might not work out for a repair, but maybe I'm wrong.

Thoughts? Anyone ever had MAJOR rash taken out of a wheel and can comment on the price and results?

I'll try to post some photos.

So, like a woman drove it? =P

Depending on how much you love the 269s, I've seen some amazing work done, though not in your area to refurbish similar rims to make them look brand new. Just a question of how much you like those wheels and whether you'd rather spend like $100-150 per wheel trying to make those like new, or perhaps buying a new set of alternative wheels (like those new VMR 810s) for only a couple hundred dollars more. Or, you may just want to check a forum vendor to price out new wheels to compare refurbishing vs just buying new ones. I actually just looked and getbmwparts (Tischer) sells new 269 fronts for $345 and rears are $378, just so you can gauge the difference.

Of course I'm biased and would say you should try to pick up a set of style 313s which look amazing on our cars. =)

Well and the other problem is he has 269s that have lettering on them that say BMW PERFORMANCE, which I don't even know if they can fix. Not sure if those are just vinyl letters that peel off or what. See below.

My sense is it sounds like it'll be a lot of money and a lot of work that may never quite look right or new, so he may not be happy with the ultimate result. Sounds like new center caps are needed as well.

they shouldn't touch that portion of the lip- if you have damage there your issues are more serious

One of my fav wheels for e82. I dont think you will make them look like OEM nor is the effort wirth it. Perhaps you should just refinish in hyper silver/ gun metal/black chrome and call it a day

If the paint is flaking its much better to get them properly stripped and repainted. If just respraying over dodgy old paint, its quite likely the paint finish will keep coming off and basically looking like rubbish quite soon. If they have already been refinished before, that's even more reason to get it done properly, but not cheap.

Selling a set of 269

Replace them or refinish black. OEM is OEM. No way to duplicate.

I have a set of 18" staggered OEM Motorsport Style 269's I'll be posting on the classified section soon if you're interested. They are near new condition - one wheel has about a 1" section of rash. Disregard the dirty - they clean up nicely. 18x7.5 fronts and 18x8.5 rears. $900 plus shipping. Rims only. Center Caps and Tire Pressure Sensors are not included.
