Its because the clutch drags. All n54 based cars do it to some degree. Its why you sometimes grind on downshift and the 1-2 shift feels notchy, even slow. Every wonder what that thump is when you put it in gear when your not moving? Clutch Drag.

When an aftermarket company steps up and addresses the issue in an aftermarket unit with a redesign of the disengagement and clutch plate thickness, this will go away.

Not sure why this is such a big deal for some folks. It's not a museum piece.

My brother has already had some seat time in the 1M and my fiancee will be driving it when we head out of town for the holidays.

Of course, they have both been driving manuals since they were 16 and are excellent drivers.

^^this is why I always wait or pause a second or two before selecting 1st while slowing to a stop, or first engaging a gear at a traffic light You have to wait for the trans gears to stop spinning, AFTER you depress the clutch.

Anytime you move the shifter and it hesitates... it is trying to tell you something. HEY don't do that! This is not a N54/N55 thing but all MT cars do this to some extent.

Its an n54/n55 thing. Waiting for the trans to spin down is different then the clutch not totally disengaging.

The delay in shifts is the syncros matching the speed, but with the clutch partially still engaged, they have alot more weight to move around, let alone the resistance of the engine. Its most pronounced in the 1-2 shift because of the "distance" in ratios between them.

I can push the clutch down in my car, wait 10 min, and still get a thud putting it into gear.

No the cdv wont make the clutch drag stop, but might help you time your shifts better without the delay.

Ok, this makes sense.

I've already been doing what dackel mentioned above naturally. Seems like disengaging the clutch on the 1-2 shift it does want to drag, takes a little finessing for a silky smooth shift. Not really a complaint, just an observation. I've been liking more involvement rather than less with this car.
