Semi-slick ideas?
Hi gents and ladies,
I need new track tyres! Any suggestions on brands and types? I've only ever used Michelin Pilot Sport Cups. They were good but nothing to compare against. I'd like a good combo between grip and durability - I'd like to get a few sessions out of them. Any input is appreciated. Thanks. |

I'm told by some that Dunlop & Bridgestone semi slicks are the best. I've got Toyo's. Should be good for at least 3 or 4 track days by the look of it.

I view the Cups as more of a street slick.
Toyo R888s are excellent! The Bridgestone RE55s are great but don't last as long. I haven't used the Yokos, but they seem to be pretty good too. Just don't get Falkens...I heard they are terrible. |

Have heard good things about Toyo 888s and Bridgestone seem to be getting a good wrap. The Advans - were given the thumbs up from my friends here - really want to know about them. |

I've had the dunlop direzza for the last year or so. Great tyres, and great compromise as they're really good road tyres. My ony complaint would be they are quite loud and whiney for freeway travel.

Yeah, good value for money. However, I just took my 2/3s worn KU36s off my track rims, replaced them with some hardly worn 5 year old R888s and gained 1.5s at Lakeside. Also gained some snap oversteer when they let go...

i rate these highly as a long lasting track tyre, not as sticky as the toyo or re55's but hold on nicely enough for me -not serious about times just in it for the fun- Also cos of their tread pattern you can also swap them over at the front after you have destroyed the outside of them and get more days use.

The Hoosier "2 liner" is probably the fastest R spec tyre available. Doesn't last as long as the others, but as always with track usage, it's a compromise thing that you have to decide for yourself.

Hankook RS3's...
inexpensive. 140 tread wear if it werent for lack of neg camber i would have gotten another 3 track days out of them at least.. i had 9 full track days ( approx 45-50 laps each) and at least 12 auto x's i was happy with them, enough so to get another set for this season, but i am finally adding camber plates. my .o2

How was the wear on the R888s? I don't think it's on the winning list! Last edited by alik01; 03-04-2012 at 08:03 AM.. |

They are top on my list at the moment. Have heard great stuff and seems to be a good compromise between grip and wear. Pretty good price too. I'm not doing any competition either, so don't need anything proper R compound. As for times - I do keep a slight eye on those! |

Are you looking for street/track tyres or pure semi slicks?
Semi slicks on your thread is like Yoko A050, Toyo R888, Bridgestone RE11S (RE55s in the last decade). I still like Dunlop DJ03 the best all around semis. I know, I have used them all in my mad track days years a few years ago. If you want something that can go on the road as well. You cannot go pass Michelin PS3 or Dunlop Star spec. Dont buy second hand semis as the rubber hardens and become no good. But they are still slightly better than sport road Tyres like PS3 or star spec. hope it helps

I want a track tyre - the only reason I want semi is to get home and back really. So you think the best one is Dunlop? You think this is superior to the Advan AD08? |

Have a loon at ozzytyres.com.au, they have a good selection of Nitto SS's and a few others. Very cheap (wholesale).
