Definitely wouldn't upgrade my 135i to an "M1". Like others have said, chip the 135i and you're already talking power in the same ballparks as what they reckon the M1 will be putting out. Granted, you won't have the handling or the clever diff which you'd certainly notice at the track. Even with the existence of an M1, if the funds allowed, the next step up from my 135i would be an M3, no question. The e92 shape is just sooooo much nicer than the e82 shape in my opinion. Love my e82 but everytime i see an e92, yeah, respect.

+++1 Dave. I will probably get burnt, but owning one I think gives me the right to say it, the 1 is a car, in terms of looks, that only a mother (owner) could love. There is no comparisom when you go E82 versus E92 or even E88 versus E93 visually. It was mentioned earlier by intehnet that the V8 is lighter than the E46 M3 engine, correct from what I have read, so it may in fact be lighter than the N54 so would be awesome in any 1 M car. Remembering of course that a 135 is only ~ 80 kilos lighter than the M3 anyway so Kw -> Kg would be that different. Another point is that there are some pretty solid rumours out there that say the next M3 will be a TT 6 (N54??) so where does that put the 1 M car...F knows! Bring em on, ///M cars rule. |

I'd like to see the S65 in the M3 blown with a couple of turbos. THAT would be something!

I am quite surprised that not many people are as excited as I am, as I am thinking of putting down the dosh once it's official. Let's hope they do something special with the engine - a valtronic engine I6 with a wider adjustments than the N52, a twinscroll turbo, plus a 2nd turbo that works at higher revs would be something special - if that's technically possible (I am no engineer, so I might not make any sense). But, I think the lighter weight and better dynamics from a factory package already does it for me.
I actually like the look of the 1er better than the 3er, but looks is usually personal. As I would have to replace 1 of the coupe to a more sensible car anyway, the size wouldn't really matter.

True Alex. BUT the specs of this M1 are all just speculation at the moment. If is to be a true M car the specs and build should be as breathtaking as any other M car that BMW makes. Until the actual specs are released I will reserve my judgement.

My personal preference would be that if i'm buying an ///M car, i'll be looking at 8 or more cylinders. Sure, that pretty much cuts out any M3 prior to the current model, but i've fallen in love with the current one (sorry, Christine!). Value for money is in either second-hand M3's or M5's.... Coastline had a second-hand E60 M5 with 40k on the clock for 110'000.... Tell me that's not a great deal! You're right though, unless anything confirmed comes out, and until then, i'm sticking on 125's and 135's. It really HAS to be something out of the box and to eclipse the 135 to make me attracted. Even so, there's not too much between the current M3 and the 135 in straight-line stuff. |

[quote=Zuzu;6490757]Speaking of great deals..check this E60 M5 out..29K on the clock..
That is a good deal on the face of it. The local dealership had an 06 M5 a few months back that went for $88k though it had 80k on the clock. Last month they had an 06 M5 with 19k that they wanted $139k driveaway - I don't know what it eventually went for but I would imagine less. Don't know if I could live with an average of 18L/100km. I've even heard of 25L/100k around town!!! Having owned an 06 530i I found the car a bit big for me as a daily driver and that's why the E90 M3 is just perfect!
