My only omission was the other two common options of sunroof and metallic paint, add another circa $3k for those. If they were n/c BMW would have mentioned it for sure. So all up line ball with a CLA45.

BUT... BMW will discount and BMW will have the stock, unlike Merc.

And that's exactly right John. I can't imagine most buyers of a sub $100k car would be willing to wait 9 months for a car. It's not like we are talking about buying a dream super car here. But then again maybe to some these cars may be their dream cars so I shouldn't generalise too much.

Having said that, to me the M235i is a match for the CLA45 in many ways. In gear acceleration would be similar, and the 0-100 may be a bit slower due to traction off the line. If my M135i is anything to go by, it will probably roll too much for serious driving. But this isn't anything a set of properly calibrated after market sway can't fix. The one area where I think the CLA45 has a clear advantage is in the brakes department. The AMG brakes look pretty serious!

But most important of all, the RWD nature of the Bimmer is so much fun. I can slide the car here and there and enjoy myself especially in the wet. In the Merc, I was dead bored driving it hard as it just grips and goes. No skills required. No thanks.

Safe to say in the 2 series range it's exclusive to the M235 and the MSport package, as it says in the release info.

Estriol Blue will be limited to only M-sport packaged cars in general. The only m-sport we are getting initially is the M235i. The only other models we are getting at launch will be 220i and 220d. My bet would be that a 228i in m-sport will be available within 3 months after launch.

Funny, they have gone to press on their RRP and option packs but left off the standard fare inclusions.

Yeah it's a pretty half arsed effort from BMW. One can only guess at this stage.

They will likely introduce the series with the "poverty pack" first and 6 - 9 months later release the special innovations pack like they are finally doing with the F30. News below is for F30 from November 2013 production.

"A new Innovations Package for BMW 3 Series sedan and Touring variants will bundle together up to 10 high-demand options, offering customers claimed added value of up to $4300.

The Innovations Package brings at least five features to all 3 Series sedans and wagons, including head-up display, surround view camera system, auto parking assistant, driving assistant (combining lane departure and collision warning systems), and lane change warning system.

Models below 328i specification gain side mirrors with anti-dazzle function and an enhanced instrument cluster with high-resolution display, navigation directions, additional Eco Pro data, and extended phonebook and radio lists."

Already available. Ask your local dealer. I have a PDF but they asked me not to share just yet.

The long waiting list plus the prospect of an upgrade to the standard configuration after a year or so reinforces my resolve to wait for a while. It's not as though I'm desperate to get out of my current ride. I'm still having a great time in it.

Not really Alpine, there is always a dealership out there that will come to the table. The only real downside is the ridiculous wait time for the CLA. My drive away was 91.5k from 98k, so discounting is not an issue as such.

Would love to see blind spot assist and cruise control that can stop and go by itself then I would want one.
